Speaking of Mrs. Fearless Leader, I poke fun a lot, but she's really awesome. In fact, we just updated the upstairs living room, making it a sitting parlor for when I come home on Fridays and need to relax. So I let her do what she wanted with the room, but she insisted we needed something black and suggested my old SWR combo cabinet as a table between our chairs. I'm like, are you kidding? That old relic? So we cleaned it up and Exhibit A is below. The room is not only more beautiful, but it also rocks too! I love Mrs. FL.

Okay, strap on the belt, I'm taking ya'll for a speaker-swapping ride. Morrighan, you may want to shut down your combo and pay close attention. Methinks I've run into a snag so if someone has an idea to solve my dilemma you may increase all of our knowledge on the subject. Pics included.

So I decided to play hookey from h'work this afternoon and put the Eminence Alpha 8A in place of the Ampeg stock driver. Well, all was going well until I'm hooking up the Alpha when unbeknownst to myself, I spy upon the spade lugs from the 'Peg wiring. They're different from one another and do not fit the Alpha. I try rigging the tiny lug onto the speaker but it fell off and I became so frustrated that I almost ordered a Peavey combo! But being loyal to GP, I chose to fight this one on my own...with all of you behind me. Now, for all you experts out there snickering because this is an easy fix, spread your wealth of brains and please help a fella out. Keep me away from the science journals...p-l-e-a-s-e!!!

M, the eminence is a 'lil beast. Check out the magnet difference. Obviously, it's a better-built speaker, but if I have to stick the Ampeg back in it's not the end of the world. I'd rather keep it though.

Assuming your problem is the wrong size/broken connector, ACE may have the correct size and a wire cutter/crimping tool. If not, I don't understand the problem...

Likely something simple like maximizing profits by saving costs, same as any.

Assuming your problem is the wrong size/broken connector, ACE may have the correct size and a wire cutter/crimping tool. If not, I don't understand the problem...

I was going to mention "solder and soldering irons" but I thought that might have been too close to the science journal reference.

That’s what I was figuring too, but I hate working with wiring that tiny. Are you talking cutting the end of the small spade and soldering a new one on? Can I then go to the dentist for a root canal too? Where’s my manservant when I need him?

If the "small spade" was on the wire and fell off, you just have to get a replacement connector (ACE?), bare the wire and crimp the new connector on (with a wire crimper/ACE?). Does the new speaker have the same large and small connectors? If not, replace the connector on the wire with the size the new speaker has and let me know so I can introduce you to polarity. Fear not, this is actually easier than going to a dentist or waiting for your manservant (and I hope you are not referring to @G-Dog )!

Ah, hate for a different reason...I haven't had any problems with them. I only have their SCR-DI which I don't use that much. I do appreciate their historical contribution which goes back as far as I do, which is a long time .

The original design makes it(nearly)impossible to get the polarity bass-ackwards if replacing with an NOS speaker. Hopefully they're somehow marked +/- on the original or a schematic, then match up the Eminence. Tape it in place to test it, then solder-or wrap bare wire through the Eminence lugs.

Turned a woefully underpowered Fender Rumble 200 into a 350 watt 8 ohm Club Crusher reloaded with a Kappalite 3015 and a Shuttle 6.0 clamped to the top. Beef is ready! I call it The Grumble, and it kicks BUTT. Weighs about 32lbs, the better speaker is actually around 12lbs lighter than stock.

For those wondering, I did this because the power stage of the rumble was damaged beyond worth repairing, I already owned the shuttle, and the kappalite was loaded in another cabinet I don't use.

Huh? ... Whatzitz? ... Wirink? . . . . Spade...lugs? I am always recommendink genuine Speakon® speaker connectors, and/or ¼" plugs. I dunno from luggink spades. Why changink perfectly goodnik speaker, anywayz? Just costink more rubles & kopeks?¿?
