The Combo Club

I just my regular set up to practice or go unplugged. When I use my regular set up I'm either wearing headphones or have the volume at varying levels. I just started playing again in November after a 25 year absence, so I have played with a band lately. I have a connection with a local drummer but we haven't gotten together yet. So my stuff is always at home.

As I've gone back in past pages to catch myself up on the club, I've read with interest how much home practice amp, power-wise, people want to have. My brain is kind of mushy right now. That's what morning Pickleball down at the riverfront will do to ya.

For me, my practice amp is whichever amp gets "retired" from gig use-whatever the reason. The Kasino 'cause it's too damn heavy to try and load into the van by myself and the Bassman25 'cause it "acted up" on a gig. Since fixed but its replacement has more watts and less weight.

No pics but I’ve posted several times about my GC Acoustic B-200 combo

“ tons of tone...best bang for the buck”

“ only rig ( at time of purchase) I tried that could handle Low B on my Zon “

I was stunned dismayed

Went to every store/ shop in search of Combo I could lift ( repaired hernia year before). Nothing but outrageously large and high$$$ could handle my low B

After a while I’d just take my bass in

Thump low B and leave disappointed

Months later I was in GC Tried everything. Even SVT farted -out

Just before giving up I tried GC Acoustic B-200 And was amazed

My B blossomed Combo has plenty of power as well as D/I out to PA for reinforcement SOLD !

At home I could craft tones to my delight from 6 bands semi parametric

Months later I bought a cover for it

Design flaw is adding a cab does not increase power

Months after that I bought same rig in separates as the Combo was still on the heavy side ( I’m older) and took up larger footprint whereas separates is a little easier to load even in 2 trips or with hand Trucks is easier to load into a small car and adding a cab gives more power

Both serve me well so I’m keeping them both

A lot of guys here in N. E. W. ran those Kasino amps back in the 60s never played one myself but always wondered how the sounded.
Is yours the 3x15 model?
Please explain the sound you get from it do you play a 5 string?

Awesome you kept your 370!
My (stupidly) traded away series of amps was:

used 68 Marshall Bass 100 (full stack ala J Bruce) for
used 72-ish Acoustic 370 for
new 73 Gallien-Krueger 400b

I’d like to have any of those amps right now, but I have a nicer collection than I would have imagined back then.

rodl2005, welcome to the Combo Club! You and your very nice rig are at the right place. We love our combo amps and respect those owned by others. Feel free to ask a tough question or pass on some good advice if you get the chance. You'll be on the updated list in just a bit.

Most recently bought Berg forte’ and HDN 1-12 in lieu of a 361 that I’ve drooled over for years It was louder than loud but not articulate enough

Alas I’ve never owned a 301. I run my 370 through a Sunn 1-18vh which is an ear candy combo ...staying in context of this thread

It's 2x15",listed at 200W. The speakers are original CTS and even though it's always been kept in a temp. controlled environment they fart below A at volume. I play mostly 4s but I have 2 5s . I've played both through it but at less than 1/3 volume. If you go on You Tube and put in "Driftwoods of Treasure Coast,Live" and scroll down to songs 9,10 and 11, I'm playing an Epiphone EB-3L through it. I also once played a valley in Dodgeville, WI, 1972, where it was the only bass amp. It held its own quite well.
