The Combo Club

I knew I’d get a stir outta you. So how’s the woodshedding going with Baby ‘Peg? Have ya had a chance to open her up a bit and let her run? Again, mine didn’t seem to take too long before I was smiling.

Best mad scientist project I've undertaken in ages. There's got to be a Hatlo's "tip of the hat" for BA108 upgrades around here somewhere.

My pride runneth over! I knew you’d dig it. Totally agree with you too. If BA108 owners like what they hear but want to move up to “love,” they have to trust our ears on this one.

I also agree with your assessment about small gigs with maybe a mic in front of it or wide open. The tone is that good. Glad you two are back together again!

If one were to go full mad scientist

Were one to go full mad scientist

Run a post-EQ line out from the BA108 to a Phil Jones PB-300 powered cab. Gonna reckon the headphone out on the BA108 is not appropriate. Or is it? What it would mean is the internal speaker would shut down for silent practice, so that's no fun at all. Fun would be a true line out with the BA108 in kickback as a personal monitor as the PB-300 does the heavy lifting. People be all like .... What Is That. 250 watts into 6 Piranha neo drivers <maniacal laugh> is what it is [nice men in white coats lurk offstage]

Back in the (alleged) Reality Zone (there's a thread going on about Reality, go figure), the BA108v2 Plus is absatively capable of any coffee house duty.

Interesting idea. I don’t believe the headphone out has the ability to send a proper preamp signal, but it could be DI’ed, correct? Your powered cab idea makes good sense, mad scientist lady, but does is have to cost the equivalent of the total GDP of Tanzania?

I think I’d rather sink the money into a decent microphone for bass and rust the PA. If only the BA-210 v2 sounded as good!

Uh oh, a crazy foray into the world of ... microphones. Oh yeah wanna talk the sound guy into miking a 20 watt amp. With my mike. That I know nothing about. It sounds like awesome fun!

Yeah for sure the PB-300 is an expensive bit-o-kit. two of them ....

On a sadder note, with the BA108v2 Plus back in the house, couldn't find my metronome. And coughed up for a new one, same as the old one. A Korg. And this morning as I rooted around for something else found the old metronome. Maybe time to post a classified ... LOL Unless we want dueling metronomes.

You could use them to mimic double kick drums! I’m so cheap I use an online metronome because it has four added drum patterns too.

So how about a transparent DI instead of the mic? You could even pick up a real nice one for a fraction of the PJB cab, but admittedly, it wouldn’t be as cool-looking!

My VT Bass Deluxe has a top drawer DI! Some folks at TB say the VTBD sounds more Ampeg than the Ampeg SCR-DI. No experience with that. One of the things the VTBD packs that I do use is its cab sim. It's a very effective LPF with a steep roll-off at 5khz. The HPF in the cab sim is much more gentle, so there's a Broughton HPF in front of it.

A mike seems to be the best idea! (With the clear understanding it's for my bass, not my - alleged - singing.) The BA108v2 Plus is a tone monster.

The good thing about metronomes is that they get along nicely together.
