So, I got my other combo amp back from my son. I'm using it at my rehersal space now. My son now uses a Fender Twin.
Some cool vintage you’ve got there, CosmicRay! Let me know if you’d like a number so you can become part of our clan. We’d enjoy having you and your Fender combo.

What?! No fair! Doest thou bestowest a number for each individual combo, such that a proficient comboite* might accumulate multiples of these? Surely CosmicComboite #120 is fully anointed and valid in all respects without further enumeration?

A thousand most humble pardons, Ray-Ray. Fearless Leader is veddy busy despot and occassionally overlookink memberships in signatures. And, please, payink no attention to tabloid reports of Fearless Leader mental confusion, or paparazzi photos of wild-eyed Fearless Leader. As you know, he works with children, who are the future of this great world, and most noble cause. Not his fault that such dedication takes a veddy stressful toll. Thanks CR. I didn’t have the roster out when I wrote. Regardless, I get excited when people bring onto the forum interesting combo amps.
Curious, do you use that amp for practicing or is it more for posterity? It seems as old Fenders get knocked for less bottom end, but I’d love having that in my room.

No worries, I don't remember all my club member numbers either....
I've owned this amp for over 20 years. My son was playing it for a few years as his guitar amp on a few gigs, but now has a Twin Reverb. So now I got it back and use it at my rehersal space.
I asked...he said no. The price is excellent though. I gotta see if I can get a loan from the boss...
Good luck. Remind her that Christmas is near and it may prove worthwhile to let you begin the festivities. That’s what I did!

The BA108 is back, and picked up some weight up at Santa's Workshop. That gingerbread does it every time.
Not real certain how that hummus would work.
That mint green coily cord is the coolest cord I've ever seen.

Are you using it to run the PJs? And do you mean that the new speaker is actually heavier than the old one, or do you mean that it has more sonic heft?

The stack at the right is a Phil Jones Bass BG-400 "Suitcase Compact". As snazzy an amp as I ever did own, it's 350 watts into 4 five-inch Piranha speakers. The C4 extension is four more Piranha for a total of 500 watts out of that combo.
As time and space got a little funny a while ago, found myself in one country with my combo in another country. But with my C4. The Elf is what I did to resolve that until time and space healed up a bit and everything in the same place. Drove the C4 with the Elf in the knowledge the Elf is a whole lotta amp. It's totally not a Phil Jones, it's its own thing. A very fine thing. Fine enough with
Everything ironed out it made sense to grab a cab just for the Elf. For rooms that don't need the whole Phil Jones enchilada. Reckon that's a lot of places, actually. Intrigued by the Phil Jones Cab 27, chose it over the Trace Elliot offerings partly for aesthetics and partly because of my experience with the 5 inch drivers in the C4. And now can totally see adding another Cab 27 because it's so much fun.
The Ampeg BA108v2 is the crown jewel here with a new Eminence Alpha 8a to replace the stocker. The origins of the event are now far upthread. TL;DR "let's try upgrading the BA108 for science!"
It's the little practice amp that really sees all the heavy use here. It has absolutely everything I need to practice at low volume. I mean, really, we are bass players and one of those first things with an amp is let's turn all the knobs and see what happens when we dime it. While not exactly conducive to practice, it is a learning experience. An amp's got to know its limitations. For actual getting-things-done stuff, it's the BA-108

Home sweet home...let the games begin! Actually, you’ll be shocked st how far you can right turn the knobs on your updated combo. I run bass 1-3 o’clock and keep everything else fairly flat. I little goes a long way. Twist the volume until your ears say “enough!”

Totally safe in my belief it is impossible to blow the Eminence Alpha 8a with this 20 watt combo.
What I hear feels more defined than the stock BA108. (I play four stringers) Low notes sound tight to my ears. Even growly. I would not hesitate to take the Peg to a coffee shop sort of deal. And it sounds good. What it isn't going to do and is never intended to do is carry the ball into the Phil Jones combo territory.
