Doc, I knew we probably would think alike on that subject. I feel terrible for what Oz is going through and worry it’s going to become an annual tragedy much like what we have with California. Fire burns up land, rain causes mudslides, and repeat.

It is on its way via UPS. They assigned a customs broker to it. I'm not sure how they can charge me for it since it was a Xmas gift.

I feel bad about those who are suffering from these climate changes too. As you know, I told my own story, but the good thing about my situation is that it is not a permanent situation. For some it will be, and we will have to be open to helping those displaced and changing our ways of life going forward.

Please post your thoughts on the Combo after you’ve had to break it in. I’ll be interested in your opinions. To me, it’s great for home or maybe a two-person gig, but I don’t think for much more because of the tiny driver. It’s worked for ‘Dog though.

Prior to that "career" incarnation covered many fires in the course of learning the ropes as a reporter. One standout fire I recall began as a burglary. The perp broke into a sporting goods store and started a fire to cover his escape. Except he didn't escape. He got stuck in the ventilator shaft. Perhaps he had time to make some life reviews of his own decisions, I don't know? What I know is this is the sort of thing they drag me out o f bed to witness. Then it's to the office to write the story up.

Unrelated: [when newspapers were functioning as actual newspapers] the leggiest girl in the newsroom is automatically assigned the cop beat.

Wow. I can relate. I was part of the most expensive natural disaster in Canadian history. In 2016 the whole city of Fort McMurray, roughly 90 000 folks, had to evacuate the city due to a wildfire. It was the scariest thing I've ever experienced. We escaped with my wife, our son, who was 6 months at the time, and our two cats. My wife told I had to pull myself together, as I was freaking out and questioning every decision I was making through the three hours it took us to actually get out of the city. When we finally got on the highway out of the city it looked like a post-pocalyptic scene out of a movie. Vehicles, including a city bus, we're abandoned on the side of the road, and houses and bush were on fire on both sides of the road. We felt so small and inferior in the face of nature. That fire caused a lot of physical damage to the city but also ruined people's lives. The city hasn't been the same since. Nonetheless, I am grateful that it wasn't worse.

I recall the Fort McMurray fire because our company has a site there. All our employees and families got out, but we were all very worried about them.

Glad that Giffro is also safe, and hope that the situation settles down.

Most SA areas now only on Watch and Act if any fires break out again, although most are out now. Friday was a real stinker as we say here..lol 46C degrees luckily didnt quite make it..hit approx 44C though and not a good day for bushfires. The day took 2 lives and many homes here in SA.
There are still bushfires rampant in NSW north and south of Sydney and in the famous Blue Mountains region of NSW..many homes and property lost and a couple of young firefighters died when a tree came down and the firetruck crashed into it and rolled. Both guys had young families. Very sad day for NSW firefighters. Those guys over there are now being supported by American and Canadian Firefighters. Thanks so much to all you guys for loaning us your men to help, and for the great support The Combo Club and The Rumble Club has shown to us here during a very dangerous and trying time with these killer fires.

It is very heartening to hear about people from around the world rallying to help. Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I think that more people are willing to help than not.

Thanks for the best wishes Rod...things are still a bit on edge as the temperatures are heading back to the mid 40's again this Christmas week now that our South Aust. fires are mainly out so it could be on again later this week but we hope not..gotta love Christmas in Australia..only 32C in Adelaide for Christmas day but getting hotter after that yet again.

Page 3? Absolutely not! I've been doing a little lurking around spreading my holiday cheer to all those in need of combo amp advice. I'm enjoying my first day of winter break (not counting the weekend which was spent wrapping up shopping, cleaning the castle, washing the vehicles, etc) and with nearly 50 F temps, it is heavenly. We're gonna have a Cali Christmas this year with warm weather and no snow. Sorry Iowan winter lovers, not this season. This reminds me that Giffro and our other Australian club members aren't as fortunate, and our thoughts are definitely with you.

Still trying to get a couple of songs from one of my co-teachers from last Friday's holiday assembly, where I believe we played six songs, but here's a Facebook link that has one of our tunes in progress, Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I used my Beatle bass through the Fender Rumble 100 for monitoring and DI'd to FOH. Not the best recording, but you can hear the big bass tone that I've really come to like, especially with small groups. It fills up a lot of space.



In other business, I'm putting a call out for any and all new toys, gadgets, instruments, and especially combo amplifiers received by club members (and wannabes) alike for before and after Christmas. Sweeten everyone's palates this next week by posting pics and details of your soon-to-be latest acquisition. Me? I'm flying below the radar this week because 1) I really don't need anything after purchasing the Superbeetle rig, and 2) I thought I'd wait and see what after-holiday deals show up in my inbox. I may just see what comes my way, but I definitely am not looking to add to the stable. 2020 promises to be interesting though as I enter the diamond 60th year of life. I may even, I can't believe I'm even writing this, SAVE for something nice for June. Ah, don't bet on it...

If only I could send you some of our oddly warm mid 40's F weather to give some relief for your mid 40's C weather. I absolutely hate hot weather, and I tend to wilt when it gets above 30 C, so I shudder to think what another 10 degrees would feel like.

Mrs. Dog is cooking up lots of goodies for the house full of family coming to eat and celebrate The Day. So, my weight gain has already begun just by sampling!! We always have to give everyone leftovers to take home. She doesn't consider it a good celebration unless there's enough food for double, or more, the attendees.
