Mine does too LoveJack lollLove my Stingray! Sounds so good!
Hope it was in your colour Morri lolll
Lovely Morri..I tend to run my HH on the back pup to sound as close to the single original pup like yours..still sounds nice when I cut them both in mind you..but there is something special about the original Ray single pup sound.
What are those strings Morri? DR Black Beauties?
Never a truer word spoken Morri..ive tried a few different sets and Stingray comes out through the fingers and tone no matter what wire ya playing on it.While I always felt the 'Ray is a brilliant instrument (ownership bias), mine is pretty much sidelined after 40 years with me. Yes, those are Black Beauties and I really like them. What I find, though, is a Stingray sounds like a Stingray no matter what strings are on it.
Only 3 feet tall. Wow. Looks 6 foot. LololWeell LoveJack..Morri wanted a 750 Watt Combo for Christmas..I found her a lovely Phil Jones Combo loll Check it out in the link loll
Phil Jones Bass Roadcase BG-800 750 Watt 12 x 5" Bass Combo Black
Is that pickguard after market? Love it.Lovely Morri..I tend to run my HH on the back pup to sound as close to the single original pup like yours..still sounds nice when I cut them both in mind you..but there is something special about the original Ray single pup sound.
I have a few sets to try on it Morri..Im sure the SR5 will still sound SR no matter what lollWhile I always felt the 'Ray is a brilliant instrument (ownership bias), mine is pretty much sidelined after 40 years with me. Nicely done.Ya got it bad when I tell myself I need a new baas so I can try different strings and keep the strings I'm using now.
Here in the Northern Hemisphere, Orion is high in the sky. And chanced to step outside last night to have a look. Not necessarily to see if I could see the stars, but a moment in the chill air and night sky. Orion right above, and of course I quickly sight Betelgeuse. Note today a report that the red super giant (a radius from Sol to Jupiter) is in a dimming cycle.
The stars the Kinks sing about that I have first hand knowledge of are on Hollywood Boulevard, a some few blocks north of the shop where I bought a clear pickguard replacement in ~82. It replaced the stock black pg that I still have. Discovered the finish under the pickguard never oxidized (or oxidized at a slower rate) as the rest of the finish. The result is a bass that looks like saddle shoes.
Printed up a cool graphic on photstock, cut it to fit and screwed it down under the clear pickguard. And pretty okay with the look, especially with the Black Beauties.
I actually think I have a set of those too GP after that pic was taken. I went crazy in 2018 snapping up sets of diff strings..(although I am and have been for many many years a Rotosound user)..4 and 5 string sets..the hardest to get here in Aust were the Rickenbacker sets as they (Rickenbacker) refuse to ship and stock them here so I found a UK distributor who was only too happy to ship me a couple sets here to Oz. That lot should last me a lifetime lolllWhat you're missing is a set of EB #2816 Cobalt flats.![]()
I have them on my LPB25(Les Paul Bass 2/5 string)and my 67 NR Thunderbird. I also put a set on(no longer)my EpiBird NR 5er. I hope the new owner likes them. I'd wanted one of those since I first saw one, but we just didn't "work" together. I kinda hated to part with it, but I wasn't playing it.I actually think I have a set of those too GP after that pic was taken. I always used Rotosound myself. Now I'm in love with Fodera Ultralights. Made my SG sound much better. Clean bright tones. My early days as a bass idiot (compared to the elder days of advanced bass idiots) saw only a world of Rotosounds. Everybody but everybody I know in the early 80s is using them. Settled in on DM Super Rounds as close to the tone but longer-lasting. Because these are the times when mac and cheese for Christmas dinner is more than merely imaginable.
Someone quipped if you gave a medieval peasant a full Taco Bell dinner, he'd probably die.
The memory of breaking in my fingers with Rotosounds when I took up my bass again lead me to the brilliant idea of coated strings. The 'Ray looks pretty rad in Pink DR Neons. Went to BBs once I started in with tapes on the semi-hollowbody. Like the look! Right now thinking of white tapes on the Ray.... except I just don't play the Ray that much with my semi-hollowbody addiction.
I tried rounds back in the mid 70s-early 80s a coupla times. I was working 6 nights a week then and had some pretty thick calluses on my fingers. Rounds tore them up and chewed on my frets too. Been a flats/tapes user since.[I did try D'Addario 1/2 rounds-they were "ok"(?)but didn't last very long]My early days as a bass idiot (compared to the elder days of advanced bass idiots) saw only a world of Rotosounds.
