The Combo Club

My early days as a bass idiot (compared to the elder days of advanced bass idiots) saw only a world of Rotosounds. Everybody but everybody I know in the early 80s is using them. Settled in on DM Super Rounds as close to the tone but longer-lasting. Because these are the times when mac and cheese for Christmas dinner is more than merely imaginable.

Someone quipped if you gave a medieval peasant a full Taco Bell dinner, he'd probably die.

The memory of breaking in my fingers with Rotosounds when I took up my bass again lead me to the brilliant idea of coated strings. The 'Ray looks pretty rad in Pink DR Neons. Went to BBs once I started in with tapes on the semi-hollowbody. Like the look! Right now thinking of white tapes on the Ray.... except I just don't play the Ray that much with my semi-hollowbody addiction.
I absolutely love my La Bella White Tapewounds! Shocked how great they sound.

Loll yep..its going on 3am Boxing day here. Certainly is a small world and getting smaller with bigger problems, but this is Christmas time and time to focus on the good in people and enjoy life. Have a great Holiday season all.

Great hearing from you, Mags. Merry Christmas! How’s the weather in Jolly Old England today? Here in the Midwest we’re experiencing weather reminiscent of 2-3 months ago. Sunny with no precipitation.

I listened to A Christmas Carol narrated by Tim Curry yesterday. It conjured up those images you see on television of London. Enjoy your evening and don’t forget to play some bass!

Quite mild here, 8 degrees, no sun though.
Talking of A Christmas Carol, we just had a brilliant adaptation on BBC TV by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders (check both out if you can).

Just noticed the Ric In your avatar. I have a 4003 - but don’t gig it.
Got Eddie Jones’ autobiography for Christmas, looking forward to reading that.
If he was in charge I think we would have fewer world problems!

I tried rounds back in the mid 70s-early 80s a coupla times. I was working 6 nights a week then and had some pretty thick calluses on my fingers. Rounds tore them up and chewed on my frets too. Been a flats/tapes user since.[I did try D'Addario 1/2 rounds-they were "ok"(?)but didn't last very long]
I love rounds on some of my basses, but I’ve sort of found tone nirvana with D’addario half-rounds on my AmStd P.
