I used to just say "Gibson", but a lotta the folk in Thunderbird Club use Gibby and Epi, so "when in Rome, light a Roman candle".

I checked. There are a coupla places that have them NOS for $250 +/-. And others that have them used for as little as $70. If I could squeeze $150 out of it, I'd be happy. But I know that ain't likely to happen. I expect to get over it.

Who knows Mike maybe a TB'r who needs a garage amp..young guy starting out etc..Peavey amps still have a good name..don't give up yet lol

As we say in product testing: don't determine the outlook before the test is run.

I certainly agree that the Vox is a lead candidate, but I must point out that you have not tried the little Double 4 yet. Maybe that will change your mind? From what I hear about it, it also checks the boxes.

Looking at who sells all these amps, to know who may be able to be my partner in bass.

Touché. A thorough tryout as soon as she shows up in Ioway. A snow day wouldn’t be half-bad either. I’m already sizing up the room for proper placement too. You can count on my ears.

I used to have one of these amps back in the 60's..It was a Goldentone Bassmaster amp..looked funny on its furniture wooden screw in legs..mine was a 60 watter..It was interesting in that it was actually classified as a Combo because the head turned upside down when not in use and sat inside the cab and clipped to the sides of the cab using suitcase type latches. You undid the latches, pulled the head up and out of the cab, turned it up the right way, latched it to the cab the right way up and taddaaa..a head and cab combo type amp loll..in Australia if a dog is a cross breed we call it a bitza (bits of this and bits of that)...this old amp was a Combo, yet a seperate head and cab..a bitza loll
EDIT: In the bottom pic if you look carefully you can see the suitcase type latches on either side.

I see it more as a combo and less as separates because it’s integrated much like the Ampeg B-15. Maybe it’s a quirk of mine, but I think they’re a few exceptions to even our stringent combo-only rule.

I see it more as a combo and less as separates because it’s integrated much like the Ampeg B-15. Maybe it’s a quirk of mine, but I think they’re a few exceptions to even our stringent combo-only rule.

Loll Thanks Mike anyway but I believe I had gotten rid of it by the 70's and bought a Marshall Super Bass 100.
I bet someone bought it and chopped it up into a bluetooth settee equipped with speakers..it had the right type of furniture legs loll

I had a 66 Gibby EB-3 that I not too brightly(OK, stupidly)sold. About 6 weeks later, we got a bunch of gigs where I needed a shorty. I couldn't find a black Epi EB-0, so I wound up with a Squier VM Jaguar SS. It's 'OK', but the neck profile and I don't don't really work well.

My first "good" bass was an EB-0 I modified into an EB-3 installing a DeArmond pup at the bridge with a chickenhead rotor knob. Didn't really know what I was doing, but it worked.Yanked out the frets and did a pretty poor putty job, so it was a sloppy lined board. My parents bought it for me "used" in high school when it looked to them like I was serious about music and getting into Stage Band and Jazz Choir early '70s.

Was stolen one night when I was playing a New Years Eve gig. My drummer was an ex-con and he got it back, but it was in pieces. He said the guy the stole it was in the same condition. It was irrepairable. I sure miss it! Was light and played well! Replaced it with a new '77 fretless Ripper unlined - only bass I ever bought new. Still have it and play it a lot, but it is a heavy chunk of wood!

'71 - also still have the painting in the background! lol! Sitting on my parent's Magnavox stereo speakers. lol

Well Mikeiago (so as not to confuse readers with GPMike lol) in the 70's I was in a short-lived trio, guitarist, drummer and me on bass, and from memory my bass amp had quit on me temporarily for some reason or other, and the guitarist said "thats ok plug in here with me, it has 2 inputs". I argued with him saying it was a guitar amp and likely wouldnt be a good idea. He insisted, I plugged in, played 1 note and it went pop with lots of magic smoke...like I said..It was a short-lived trio. It was a combo though, well a guitar combo loll Pic below of it...A Yamaha TA-60..The Triangle loll There's another grand band story lol

Yesterday I play with the Band and i used a old Trace Elliott 715 100w 15" cone paper....It play loud very loud and solid very solid but...

Volume is still unregulable, at low volume it disappears don't play....
A very very neutral tone, good for me and my bass but if i want a little bit more?

In parallel with my little little MB 8" the little one is more versatile. 7Kg against 70Kg, 45W (still little bit underrated..., not play loud never at his maximum ...). In my little true opinion.

Perhaps the 12" combos or 2x8" combos are better than 15" or little 8" for versatylity and power, the Phisician Rules....

gigetto, if you can, take a picture of your Markbass combo and attach it to one of your posts. I enjoy reading your thoughts because you write with great sincerity. That, plus I’m half Italian and need the support from home!

I know I’ve asked before, and won’t bother you again if you choose not to, but would like you to consider it. You belong in this fun group of combo lovers.

Here’s a piece of advice: dump the old fifteen you have, buy a new cabinet to go along with your MB, and use it for small gigs on its own and medium gigs where you can run through the PA. You’ll love it.

I’m off to school to begin the 2020 half of the term. Keep contributing great posts that have been quite enjoyable to read these past weeks. I’ll be on when time permits and new gear arrives. See ya, bass-playing, combo-loving brothas and sistas!
