And this TC Unitune I use is pretty slick. For some reason the headstock tuner bothers me, so I put it down on the amp when I'm done. Looks like a pedal tuner is up my alley.

I can use that with the new, deeper LaBellas

on that subject, seems I'm up a set of strings. A set of .040 - .100 Warwick bronze tapewounds arrived this week. Was eager to try them. Measured the 4th string before I strung and well how do you do. I need a 34 inch winding and these are 36. Did not know, ordered medium scale.

Contemplating trying La Bella Low Tension Flats "just to see", or just go back to the D'Addario tapes I was happy with before I put on the La Bella black tapes. I just had to know what they were all about. And find I like (and my bass likes) the low tension strings.

I started out with a Fender Rumble 25, but found it lacked the lowest frequencies to sound authoritative, so I got a Hartke HD75. I didn't care for the tone when set to neutral--it lacked some mid-range body, but with some adjustment it sounded fine, especially after I got a Rane ME30B graphic EQ to correct the room modes and got it to sound quite neutral at my usual spot when practicing. But the combo had a bad rattling at exactly 63 Hz at the top/right/rear corner, so I had to return it.

I ended up trying out a used Phil Jones Flightcase BG-150, which I absolutely loved. It's the most neutral and accurate combo I have ever heard, and sounded better than everything at the local Guitar Center (MarkBass, Fender, Ampeg, Acoustic, Peavey, etc.). And since I don't gig, I have no need for it to be loud enough for gigs. For practicing at home, it's perfect for my needs.

Yeah Morri..I rely on one of these..more exact tuning and a solid product..gets very good reviews too.

I’m really curious to why it’s called the BG-75. These two 35-watt amps pushing two 4” speakers. So where’s the extra 5 at? Why not BG-70? BG-704? BG-Lady in Red? I know, go to the PJB Club, but I’m not even a Jones’ newbie yet. I request a quality answer from one of my combo cohorts, even if ya have to fib.

My turn to be your sorta wet blanket. I’ve actually had pretty good luck with them, the two I’ve owned and used. I mean, besides the fact they’re not the most accurate tuner in the biz, but mine stayed put together and tuned satisfactorily, I suppose.

Let’s see, I did the currency conversion between our two countries, Giff, and came to a surprisingly interesting dollar amount for that Sting Ray5 bass. $197.34. Gee, I might pick up one of those with the change under the couch cushions in a few months!

M, go with what you want, but if you’re looking to perform a kind service, I’d love for ya to get the LaBella low-tension strings and try them out for a while. I’ve only used higher-tension strings during my time and have wondered what slightly rubbery strings play like. Maybe others would too!

Maybe they are 5" speakers Mike? If so the Phil Jones amp its likely 70 Watt and the 5 stands for 5" speakers..so a BG-75..just my thoughts..ask Morri for confirmation if they are 4" or 5" speakers..is there a couple of different models with the same designation of BG-75?...I mean if they are 4" drivers one would expect the model name to be more like BG-74 as you suggested lol..waiting for Phil Jones enthusiasts to correct me..i'm not really up on PJ amps although they look like a powerful unit for a small amp.
EDIT: just checked online and its actually called a DOUBLE FOUR or Double 4 (BG-75) so yes 4" speakers..in actual fact 2 x PJB NeoPower, 4 inch speakers.

Yep, I did mention it’s a pair of fours. They specifically built them for this amp. They go down to 30 Hz if I remember correctly, but I’m doubting I need to add more homeowners insurance. I may need to see what Miss M knows or head to the PJB Club and snoop around.

They look to me unattainably attainable. My wager is the wait for an Elf combo is a shorter wait than for the La Bellas.
