They know me by name at my nearby brick and mortar. They also know I'm looking (very mildly) for a short scale. Lot of very interesting gear goes through there (and, admittedly some not so interesting), so I do make a modest effort to stay away until in need. Picked up my Fender Hazy Purple curly cable there for a great price.

Looks a touch spendy to me. What might be interesting is a tube preamp pedal into the effects return of a lightweight combo like a Rumble. And would ring in less at the register

Reasonably certain I never made peace with a bridge position J pickup*. The first thing I'd want to do is drop in a MM pickup in the bridge position. That's pretty unnecessary drilling IMO with EBMM short scale Stingrays now. But speaking of "spendy". Ugh. Prolly the trick there is wait the market out until someone who believed they wanted a short scale Ray has second thoughts. But the used market isn't likely to be sub-thousand shopping either ...

I know of a fella who customized his Mustang in what I consider an impeccably tasteful and performance-oriented way. I'll ask him if he is ready to put it into the TB classifieds and see what he says. The price he quoted me is so low as to make me consider taking out a loan.
It still has a J bridge pickup, but you may find it worth trying to make peace with.
Popular mod on these seems to be EMG Geezers - PJ set. Easy drop-in installation and no more hum/noise! I love my J's and am quite partial to the growl and bite of a single coil!

My priorities now for gear is a set of TV Jones pickups for my Chowny CHB-1, then a second PJB Cab 27. That's on account of how much I like the Elf! It's the Elf and Cab 27 I use to record myself because it's so fun. The PJB rig is my go-to for live. Right now all I'm doing is working up my skills. The local blues scene is alive and healthy. It will do well for me to be seen at the blues association's showcase night next week. Different bands play for votes to perform at a summer blues festival. I've business cards, a website, getting recordings together .... it's all good but for the part where I'm out of commission for a couple months with joint fusion surgery pending. That's good too as it addresses a very painful foot joint. So playing seated .... That reminds me, one of them portable musician's stools with the built-in stand for my bass is an upper priority ....
That all said, all the actual practice I do - and I practice with specific goals and intent every day - is on my Ampeg BA-108 Plus. There's a great deal to be said for an amp that really performs at low volume. I'm kind of amazed how much use I get out of a US $99 amp ....

Well that certainly is interesting, and in Daphne Blue. Three band EQ that I know very well. I should after 41 years with mine. Did not know about this, thankee sai (I think
). To me, a Ray with rounds is exactly the sound I know. Th Chowny fills the other end of my tonal imagination, and certainly do love playing her. My Ray is pretty well retired, having earned it.... wondering if I can use a line-out on my Phil Jones combo to record on my computer. Hey there, bh! Yeah, I did some mild searching last night which led me to the GK site, finding the Legacy combos from 2019. Second mortgage? I'm talking a second mortgage on my second mortgage! True, they look awfully slick, have some really nice features, and I'm sure are built like the proverbial brick poop house, but like $1,100-$1,500? Sheesh, I'm not iagtrplyr, ya know, dropping coin for every new shiny object that shows up on an ad. Oh, wait, yes I am. My apologies.
Still, that seems like a lot of do-re-mi for a combo, albeit 800-watts and a wide configuration of speakers. Are bhendrix and I wrong?
And I balked at paying $300 for my R100-'til they threw in the cover.
For that kind of money it would have to be a perfect combo for me. Since they have tweeters, that's a no. The older GK combo's sounded pretty good but to justify the new prices I hope these new ones are better built and bullet proof.
I honestly love the GK sound but have had reliability issues with the majority of GK gear I've owned. Anything under warranty was taken care of but still, I'm hesitant to buy.
They are rather expensive but pack a wallop from the specs, they’re new. GK had just posted them in the last couple of days. Always good to have options.

$1450 for the 2x12 version @ 41+ lbs. Too many 'bucks' and too much grunting and straining for me. Neither I nor our audience would notice enuff tonal diff to justify that.
I take it they’re not dropping the regular MB line, right? Because if they are their lowest priced combo will be almost $1,200. Hey, everyone is entitled to sell a high line but don’t leave us commoners out who still might fancy owning the product.
I watched the GK Legacy video on YT and the player seemed to showcase rock music (Iron Maiden, Green Day, etc) over any other genre. It’s by far their bread and butter tone, but not to my current taste.

Probably Doc Intrepid. I hear those Canadian teachers make millions each year. His parts rig is just because he loves to see how many pieces of equipment he can hook up at one time. Otherwise, he’d be rockin’ the $1,500 GK!
