Just playing with ya, Doc! Even with your extra income and a curious mind, I still don’t see you blowing the bankroll on one of those GK combos. We are talking some serious coin here.

On the other hand, I’d still be short if I wanted an American P-bass’s or way short for a German-made Hofner.

No doubt. One a possible positive - tempting? - note is that Hofner is now coming out with a more affordable line of their hand made German basses. The price has not been announced, nor all the specs that make them more affordable, but they will have a Poly finish instead of a Nitro finish. That is one thing that will make them cheaper and supposedly more durable. It will be called the 'Artist' line. So it will sit somewhere between the Contemporary series, which have the sound blocks in them, and the expensive German basses.

Very interesting. I personally have no interest I the sound block and hope they'd be hollow-bodied, but with a price range south of two grand. Did you find this on their website, perchance? I'll have to take a peak. Right now I'm downloading the drivers and software for my Presonus DAW. It's been kinda fun messing with a new toy, but I'm also not playing bass either. It's interesting though and it seems like there's plenty they offer you to keep anyone busy over a relaxing summer (maybe) if ya know what I mean.

Thanks, Doc. That would be right in the retirement wheelhouse, though I'm still thinking about either a Players or American P-bass too. It's just that darned violin bass neck has me enraptured, plus I can't get a woodier double bass tone any better through my Fender combos than with the Rogue. Imagine what an upscale Hofner might do? Of course, I'd never take it anywhere...

Probably Doc Intrepid. I hear those Canadian teachers make millions each year. His parts rig is just because he loves to see how many pieces of equipment he can hook up at one time. Otherwise, he’d be rockin’ the $1,500 GK!

Ha, millions??? If that is true, you have to factor in exchange rates and taxes. IMHO!

Found a little info on the Bantam Bass Amp - seems the design was a fail!

The Fender Bantam Bass was a bass amplifier made by Fender. It was introduced in 1969. This silverfaced amp used an asymmetrical trapezoidal Yamaha speaker using a white styrofoam cone, and so the speakers blew very easily. As a result, the amp was not a commercial success, and it is rare to find a Bantam Bass today that still has its original speaker.[1] The Bantam tone circuit was used in the Bassman 10 combo amps, introduced in 1972, but these were barely good enough to compete with the other amps available at the time.

On the other hand, zZounds has a tidepool-colored P-bass for under six. It’s too early to worry about it, but I’m gonna keep my eye on what Hofner does in the near future.

Worked on my recording setup and am ready to try it out maybe later tonight. I may actually end up liking this little gizmo. Super-easy to install the software too. I’m looking forward to doing some experimenting and will let you hear what I come up with.

Never played through one tho I do remember seeing them many mango seasons ago.

Not if the price was within reason, but I’m not feeling confident that there’s gonna be any available. Admittedly, I haven’t checked the southpaw specialty shops yet, but I think the Hofner might be easier to get, and it’s also been my favorite to play for the past few years.

+1 as I’m getting up at what looks like 5:11 AM. GP, is that an Epiphone or Gibson? The price says maybe, but the headstock says no. The body looks good, but the grapevine on the fretboard is definitely not for me. I’d get dizzy looking at it. Does anyone have an idea how much import charges would be? Not feeling it, but much appreciated that GP would search worldwide for me!!!

Didn't exactly search worldwide, just googled "left handed Thunderbird bass" and this one came up. Along with a real Gibby at ~$3k. Didn't figger I needed to list that one.

I feel your pain as a lefty. I feel "LEFT" out when it comes to choices for basses.

The only good thing that comes out of it is that the lack of choices keeps G.A.S. from getting too out of hand.
