20 years? That’s incredible. How well do they stay in tune? Any different from when they were pups? If they sound as good as they do ten years ago then that’s a fantastic purchase!
My bad, apparently they're $45 for a 4 set around here... I'll have a look around online.
No problem at all. Actually I was hoping you were gonna say Azerbaijan or some other exotic place. I’d really like to try those low-tension strings of theirs.
For some reason, I skipped bunch of posts and missed Mr. Congeniality’s quarterly visit. Now I believe last time I went on a rage and it took those with cooler heads to get me back into my cage.
This time though, not gonna happen. I decided to try something I’ve never done before. I hit the ignore button. All gone, never to be viewed by my eyes. I happily suggest ya’ll giving it a try. In fact, I feel better now than I did the last time we went through this.

I have read that the La Bella LTF flats have less tension than Chromes, but more than TIs... Correct?
I have also read that the LTF flats have less attack than the "regular" La Bella flats... This makes sense, but, how does that stack up in a mix, live or recorded?

I’m off to slumber since I was so bad last night. I promise to think good thoughts and plan on maybe a little recording tomorrow. Then in five or ten years I hope to be able to imitate M’s daily regiment...or maybe close to it.

Well, the sticker around back says it was made on May 29, 1988. The name is a misnomer as there's nary a tube in sight. But it does have MOSFET transistors, which were supposed to give it a valve-like sound. It sports a single 10" speaker (TubeWorks badged) in a ported enclosure, delivering 65 watts. It can also deliver 100 watts with an 8 ohm extension cabinet. Effects loop, great DI, blah, blah... The most unique feature is the 3-band EQ: each control is cut only. That's why the knobs are all pegged.
It's seen nearly daily use as my practice amp for the past 15 years.
I've heard many say how good these are. I've not played one. Please fill us in. How's the tone? How loud? How deep?

With the Low Tension Flats as the entirety of my experience with flats, and all of that experience inside the window of lockdown, can't speak to how they play into a mix. The general view that I can see here on TB is the LTFs are close to the Deep Talking Bass in voice, and close to TI Jazz Flats in feel. But not the same, close.

I was trying to work it out last night. I may have purchased the bass in 2000, and the strings in about 2002. So maybe they're only 18 years old? They can vote now, right?
I pulled it out last night to have some fun, and I think the Pyramid Golds are more even in response than they were 10 years back. Used to be that the E and A sounded just like I wanted, but the D and G were a bit more bright. Now, they are all more in the range I like to think of as "tubby." Unfortunately, I'm starting to get more into that range myself.
Tuning stability is pretty good, but I don't check it with a tuner that often because I'm normally playing by myself so there's no one to clash with.
Really silly part is that I've got my 8-string, Yeller, and my mini P-copy, Shorty, on the rack at the same time. I've been grabbing one, playing for a while, then grabbing the other and playing some more. Talk about night and day!
Nah, I just watch him drive by, honking his horn and yelling, then I shrug, sip my drink, and go back to what the discussion was about. No accounting for some folks.

I used to live in Israel, and I'm really surprised to see a TubeWorks there. I don't know how I missed that detail. At least I get to show off my derail capabilities at post #32.
The bathroom scale says it comes in at 18.45 kg (just under 41 lbs) but it's lied to me before. True it's no lightweight. It sure is solid!This was my only amp for awhile and my drummer at the time had some Ampeg 410 lying about so I used to power it with the combo and it was good for practice. Now it resides in the practice/bedroom and gets taken out for intimate jams where the gig rig just wouldn't be appropriate. I've run keyboards and acoustic guitar through it with good results.
Tonewise, I guess it would be described as "old school without the noise". It's inherently clear, smooth and even. You can play slap with it but you get the impression that it really wishes you wouldn't. Not like a Hartke. So I oblige it by playing mostly classic rock and jamband stuff, fingerstyle and (rarely) with a pick. I mess around with a Digitech BP8 in front of it when I get bored and it seems to do the sonic mayhem thing just fine.
Ugh, my little GK is giving me troubles. I tried playing (first time in a while, actually) and it keeps cutting in and out. Unlike a loose wire, it sort of fades out over a span of maybe half a second, then fades back in. Somewhat randomly. I'm no electro-wizard. I swapped basses, and got the same result. I would blame the cable, but this amp has done this to me before with a different cable, about a year ago.
There's a shop in town that takes in amps and sends them to their store in Lansing where the amp techs are. Bad part is that I had them fix it about a year ago for the same issue. 'M thinking they didn't really fix it last time, just caused it to do it less frequently.
Anyone got any ideas what to tell them to look for? I'll try to get a video of it too.
