I see so many Fenders, every bass that's not a FSO draws my attention (and ears).

As a young(er) lass in 79 and thereabouts, I take pride my Stingray is a Fender. Leo himself may have even been in the building when she was born. Birth records are a bit spotty, as pre-EB basses are tracked by volunteers. From what I see when I look up my own bass' serial number is more than a couple built at the same time saw duty with worldwide name recognition shows.

My Ray does need a rehab, and really retirement, which is what I had in mind.

Short scales feel better to me here in the future. I've got a solid thumper with the Chowny CHB-1 and La Bella LTFs. Enough amplification to see me through anything. And time for the bass summit, really thinking of parting with the dosh for full access. Maybe. What happens IRL is I get all the material and I've got an entire stack of material to go through.

Thinking with my setup now that I have a computer interface is maybe remote Real Book stuff. Not at this moment, though, November is the timeframe as I complete all the bass studies I have in front of me now.

As usual, the BA-108v2 (Plus) sees far more duty than I may have ever imagined LOL It's just there with everything I need for my daily practice. Practice amp. Used for. Um. Practice. I know, what a strange world we live in.

Never heard that one, Doc. I can’t believe there weren’t more likes. Maybe it’s the pandemic.

I haven’t been to the Dad bass thread but did visit the amp version. Meh. I’ll take a look at the other one later though.

Did you find many Hofners from those who posted? I be surprised if there weren’t some short scale entries.

M, you may get a ton out of it, knowing you, a student of the craft. I’m gonna probably be watching at night, but if I find it totally awesome I may just spend the 49 clams to own it forever.

I thought to myself, “Self, imagine at either $49 or $79 a pop, a million musicians signed up for the course? That’s enough Schmackeroons to 1) get the clubhouse roof fixed, 2) buy RR his very own D4 in case the GK experiment fails, and C) get Morrighan three free lessons from Ariane Cap.

Oh yeah, and her own Terror Bass.

Violin basses were listed as a possibility. Strange theme for a thread anyway. Seems too negative to me. That's why I think I'll skip the amp version of the dad theme.

I hear ya, Doc, and kinda felt that way when I first saw the title. Like, what's wrong with Dads? I felt it like an average or level of mediocrity. Heck, like a lot of the folks here, I'm also a Grandpa...what's that make me? In the amp thread, the Rumble 100c was a popular "Dad" amp and the Stage 800 was like for fancy dads or something.

you talked me into it, I'm skipping the bass thread. Great diagnosis, Doc, thanks!

There was a dad band names thread that was fun-for awhile. Then it got repetitious-and redundant.

Unfortunately, (or fortunately, perhaps) I’ve never been able to shy away from a good donnybrook. I marched right into the dad bass thread and gave them what for.
Maybe later I’ll tell them all to get off my lawn. We shall see.

I’m gonna go hug my kids now, secure in the fact that “Dad” is the awesomest title in the world, perhaps with the exception of “Grandpa”.

And a big +1000 for your love of the Donnybrook! Don’t change who ya are, Recon, though I admit I’ve learned on this forum to know when it’s time to button thy lip. Actually, my comrades here have helped me with that!

Hang in there and wait until you can add the moniker of Grandpa. There’s nothing like it. Think of doing all the fun things you do with yours now but without all the responsibilities. It’s like stealing candy from Willy Wonka!

So true! I take great pride in spoiling my grandson rotten! No better sound can be had than when I arrive at my sons house and can hear my grandson shouting cheerfully..."Grandpa's here!..Grandpas here! :D

EXCELLENT! I own and love my Rumble 500 combo. It's light, but don't let that fool you - it's a serious tone machine and when you start playing with others, you will stand out with AUTHORITY! However, you mentioned tonal variety and if I had it to do over, I may have opted for the Stage 800 - which gives you endless amp models and effects you can employ in your pursuit of "your" sound. I have a Studio 40 which has the same features as the 800 only in a smaller package. Awesome amp and super fun and I can run it through my Rumble 500 if I want to.

Either way you go, you are a winner in my book! But if you try both, you'll probably fall in love with the Stage 800! :woot:

Well, then, it must be a call for a new great-grandpa ..., uh, ... thing! And I'm here to answer up. :thumbsup:

Yep, "dad" is terrific when they're very young or when they're parents themselves, not always in between. And "grandpa" is wonderful when they visit and (whew!) when they leave. But, "great-grandpa" is simply sublime, so far. I'll know more later, maybe much later, and will report back when the post-covid world allows actual in-person visits. :thumbsdown:
