The Combo Club

I like the looks of that. On the one I have the supports for the amp are welded onto the arms at an angle, such that they don't really fold in with the rest of the unit. It's this one:

Maybe I could slide the entire arm pieces out of the folding base? Might help a little. Gonna have to have another look at it once I get home.

Here is the RS7500 holding a larger Rumble 210 and head...its all folds up real nice.

That's sharp looking and I really like the amp stand. My PJB combo + cab needs to be on the floor, preferably against a wall, for proper low end response. Sure would be nice to work my rig closer to ear height.

Thanks, M. The amp looks intimidating up close, but sounds wonderful, as you said, at near ear level. Yep, I can understand how yours would have to be up near a wall, but that must be a little harder to hear if it's sitting on the floor. My guess is that's why you like your 'lil Ampeg so much. Tilt it right at ya and let 'er rip. I miss the little guy myself, but my kid is probably never gonna part with it. That's okay.

In my experience thats one of the draw back of small/low profile cab's and combos, especially on a small tight stage when its pointed at the back of your legs....you just cant hear it well. I uses an amp stand i really like that tilts it back at an angle.

FirewalZ, nice to hear from ya. I agree with your point. I hate dragging the stand with me, but sometimes that's all you can do. Other than stacking cabs on top of each other, there's not much choice.

Hello all

I've been too busy to post for awhile and really had nothing to say. I'm back at school this week, and classes start next week for me. I have some new course material which will keep me quite busy but I'm excited about the upcoming school year!

The band I'm playing has found a practice space. The college is providing some space for us for free three of the band members work at the college. We may have a singer too and may have settles on a name: The Why Knots.

Anyway, I've recently stopped using my amp stand. I think it may sound better just rumbling on the ground. Plus, for some reason, I'm just finding it more aesthetically pleasing lately. That could change!

Doc! Sheesh, it's like a reunion. Where's Giff? I've missed his wit.

First, congrats on your new band. I'm envying you, my man, but cannot figure out how you're finding the time if you're about to teach. I've been doing 11-hour days since we've started. Tonight I came home and told my wife, something's wrong, I don't have any work to do. I spent most of the evening worrying I forgot something!

I prefer having the amp on the ground too, until I can't hear what I'm playing. Then it's angling it somehow to make it easier to listen to mistakes. Ah life...

And

and the new bass is now vetted.

And before I go on, a word about "new bass". Started saying New Bass to be clear I am not speaking of the Old Bass. But the old bass is only old in the sense it has been in my field now for 39 years. Never did give the bass a name because it was unnecessary. Simply said: "My Bass" or "My Ray", and just that easy. Now the New Bass isn't all that New anymore and it seemed a good idea to find a proper name for it.

As a sapphire blue burst,

all manner of names were suggested. Most name suggestions were about water or watery beings. And none seemed right. Then I recalled the New Bass was completed on June 20. Now the New Bass is named Solstice Eve, and the Old Bass retains the name My StingRay or My Ray. And being a Gemini, I see, Solstice Eve happens twice a year.

Solstice Eve is vetted!

It's a carefully planned day that starts with a visit to the salon because there is an important meeting in the afternoon and I want to look my best. It's a pink full length dress I choose for the day, and swap out to a white strap because the blue strap is too busy against the dress. (Now I GAS for a new strap that's neutral, maybe in brown...) Outside it's in the 30s with 70 percent humidity. My stylist fixes my hair so it's up and out of my face in this heat.

Home after my meeting, I fix some leftover curry I made and head back downtown with Solstice Eve in the not-new-now gig bag, and my VT Bass Deluxe to run my signal to the board. Ampless tonight, and this is the first time I've run without a stage monitor. Let's see how this goes ....

It's an outdoor deal tonight and Sean has everything up and running by 19:00:

This is my first time playing with others in a year, but that's good because it means my body is well enough again to stand and play. But it's a long step up to the stage. I make it up to the stage with the speaker stand as an aid.

We test my signal through the PA. I select the default "Fat Tube" setting on the SansAmp. The EQ feels good to me for this style: a bit of overdrive and a minor bump to the mids with the Character knob. Otherwise it's flat, and I select both pickups.

It's shooting from the hip time as Sean and I have never played together before now. I know a number of songs he doesn't know the words to. We figure out we still hold a common language and we play about six or seven songs together including Crosscut Saw, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Every Day I Have the Blues.

Hear myself quite well thorough the wedge monitor, to my pleasure.

And now I find I have a fan: you two were really tight, he says, offers to buy me a beer.

And Sean asks me to come back next week .... right now it's time to wipe down all the DNA from Solstice Eve, cause it sure was hot outside. And I've a client this afternoon and one never ever knows what's gong to happen, hey?

- M

Interesting update, as usual; we're all living through ya, Morrighan. That stage looked like a winner with lots of room and well-organized. You could've put Chicago up there, horns included. Solstice Eve puts the blue into the blues, for sure. wow, that's deep! From one Gemini to another, it was your freshly-coiffed hair that one ya the fan. Well, that and the music. Good luck to you and Sean from here on out, making sure to keep us posted.

Yeah, I've been wondering about Gif too. I hope all is well with him.

I'll have a lot of prep this term, but I prefer to do it as the term goes so that it is easier to extemporize. Plus, at the college level I only have 12 contact hour a week, so I have prep time during the term. Things are compressed in primary and secondary.

Hi kids and Mike loll..just a quick note as I'm using my brothers computer at his locale..I am undergoing an internet upgrade from what has been known for the past few years a a Govt. stuff-up..so to speak. I am getting a new connection in my area from the original copper underground network (including phones) to a Fibre network and am offline for awhile yet before cabling and NBN equipment is installed in the house and outside the house and is completed. This new connection is mandatory and supplied by the Govt. Australia wide..any Aussies in here besides me can tell you about it. I have been on a DSL Broadband connection for 15 years+ but this new NBN Broadband is replacing the underground copper network Australia wide with Fibre..and some lucky customers are getting Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) direct..i'm not quite as lucky as my area is getting FTTC (Fibre To The Curb) which is the next best thing to FTTP which consists of mainly Fibre with a short section from the kerb (curb) outside my home to the connection box on the outside of my house being copper..lol It is supposed to be superior and heaps quicker compared to my total copper DSL connection but a lot of people Australia wide dont seem to think its better at all...time will tell. Unlucky customers are getting FTTN (Fibre To The Node) which could be several km's away which also means Fibre run to a cabinet streets away and then copper cabling still connected to the home from that cabinet node.
Anyway to make a long story short loll..if thats possible for me..I should be back sometime later this or next week hopefully..i'm still waiting on my new modem to be delivered for starters.
Lots of info on the internet about this darn forced upgrade to Aussie homes through the govt. approved network construction company called NBN Co.
Info below if anyone is interested lol..its a royal pain in the butt..back when I'm able kids...its horrible to be cut off..I feel alone and cut off from the rest of the world and chopped off at the knees..lol See ya soon all.

Do you have to wear a uniform to play a Hofner? :roflmao:

... I passed on the opportunity to play an Epiphone violin bass a year ago because of my 'Ray. Did pick up my 'Ray just a little bit last night and it's a very sweet instrument. Still smitten with Solstice Eve, tho.
