Actually, I like Dog’s ideas...sort of. While I do tend to be a black and white kind of guy, I like the idea of tossing this to my soon-be-created “Tribunal of the Comboites.”
All I need are our three chosen nominees to agree and then they could huddle in the back room of Rizzoli’s Pizzeria in Queens (order the Stromboli...magnificent!) and not leave until the blue smoke rises and they come out with an answer. Or chat online, whichever ya want...
Let me know if such a meeting can take place and we will put our faith into your hands. I’ll even write up the debate question if you need it.

I believe it goes a little further than that. IIRC, someone said both ends of the connecting cable were hardwired to their respective terminii(?), ... (terminuses?) ... ends. So, they are not truly disconnected without "cutting the cord". Hence the overt intention of combo-osity.
Or did I misunderstand?

OMG, this place has been empty since Monday night? Where is everyone? I have a hunch that maybe you’re all busy playing your basses through your combo amps. If so, good for you!
Quick update, all our students were sent home today for two weeks. With over a third of staff home, the time came to send the wee ones home. We’re one of many school districts in the state choosing to do this.
The next time they get to come back will be the Monday after Thanksgiving. Teaching will still be done from school, much at the disapproval of our custodial staff who wants everyone out to deep clean. Yet another chapter of “As the Covid Turns.”
It’s been some week, so if you have been able to get some playing in you are truly the fortunate ones. I pray we don’t see anything like this for another 100 years. Carry on CC members!
Side note: voting on repealing our amendment allowing the B15 rig to be counted as a combo, thus returning our definition of a combo to a single chassis, all-in-one unit ends tomorrow. So far it’s been unanimous (from what I remember) to do just that. I’ll give you the final totals over the weekend.

Band rehearsals were skipped this week. There has been an explosion of covid cases in my department at work. Since the grandkids were scheduled for this weekend, I decided to have a covid test done and put rehearsals on hold pending the results. Test came back negative so grandkids are on for this weekend and rehearsals for next week...where I will bring my GK MB212-ii for the first time. Just not digging the MarkBass sound. There, now my post is combo related!
Did Monday nite jam(R100), Tuesday evening rehearsal(MarkBass*-not mine), Wednesday nite gig(R200c), Thursday afternoon rehearsal(Mark Bass*)for jazz gig Saturday nite(R40), Friday, nada. Nada dang thing.
Using Epi EB-0. Space/weather considerations. Would prefer to use the TBird. Oh, well.

I've said elsewhere but haven't said here Alice Cooper must have shared a fat doob with me because School's Out. But not forever, it just feels like forever. Because Madge told me what I'm soaking in is the completion of Ari Cap's Music Theory for the Bass Player 2020 cohort. That's 40 weeks of material, and I've come out the other side on my way back for a second helping in January.*
One of the requirements of the course is video recording ourselves. It doesn't really matter how, or how much is seen, or who you permit to see it (outside the "classroom"). Don't want to show your face, nae problemo. The deal is everyone records themselves. It's part of the agreement we go into at the start of the course — keep an open mind.
It is my ̶s̶o̶n̶i̶c̶ ̶s̶c̶r̶e̶w̶d̶r̶i̶v̶e̶r̶ smrtphn that's pressed into duty, balanced on a music stand. My expansion to an actual DAW and computer video is, on the surface, completely unnecessary. But there's something a little deeper going on that many glommed onto. The quality of the recorded bass affects our willingness watch ourselves and to listen to ourselves objectively.
What we've seen is nobody likes to watch and listen to themselves on video at first. I'm kind of getting into it.
It's my Phil Jones BG-400 what gets called to recording duty. After a touch of overdrive from the VT Bass, that is!
Now I have the prospect of "what to do" for a couple months. For me, one of the differences I see between when I started the course and now is I have a very clear idea how to go about learning somethign. There's a Bach piece I'd like to record for my Website. Finally having a good crack at Bass Fretboard Basics by Paul Farnen. Two months to fill ....

M, Following your previous posts regarding doing a phone vid, I tried a very short one for the very first sounds I made the new bass I built. Very different and interesting. I did radio for many years but never video. So I was prepared for some aspects. But, it does help you realize that you really just need to get into your playing. The phone definitely does not capture the full tone, even w/high quality ear speakers, but it can give us a good indication. Thanks
Between That Thing That’s Been Going Around and the Pacific Northwest winter weather kickoff I’m focusing on woodshedding. I’ve got a few Jamey Aebersolds laying on the shelf that need attention. Being more of a shut-in these days has me lusting for an ultra-compact amp like a PJB [almost anything] or a Markbass Micromark. There’s no good reason for it beyond desire. Hey! Santa!
