I am preparing for a 5 month business trip somewhere in Africa.... (more info I can't and mustn't let go) No combos involved :crying:, but I'm glad I can bring my Bass-uke...:bassist:

If not, then, can you even hear a bass-uke without amplification?

If we wait a while for the results of the current voting round, we can consider an acoustic sound box as a combo according to the new guidelines, because the amplification and resonance are integrated in one housing.:roflmao::roflmao::smug:

Erm, no. Actually a few of us voted specifically to let the B-15 remain as the single allowed outlier, while declaring that no new multi-chassis units would be included.

Focus, Rocket, focus.

One of the requirements of the course is video recording ourselves. It doesn't really matter how, or how much is seen, or who you permit to see it (outside the "classroom"). Don't want to show your face, nae problemo. The deal is everyone records themselves. It's part of the agreement we go into at the start of the course — keep an open mind.

It is my ̶s̶o̶n̶i̶c̶ ̶s̶c̶r̶e̶w̶d̶r̶i̶v̶e̶r̶ smrtphn that's pressed into duty, balanced on a music stand. My expansion to an actual DAW and computer video is, on the surface, completely unnecessary. But there's something a little deeper going on that many glommed onto. The quality of the recorded bass affects our willingness watch ourselves and to listen to ourselves objectively.

What we've seen is nobody likes to watch and listen to themselves on video at first. I'm kind of getting into it.

It's my Phil Jones BG-400 what gets called to recording duty. After a touch of overdrive from the VT Bass, that is!

Now I have the prospect of "what to do" for a couple months. For me, one of the differences I see between when I started the course and now is I have a very clear idea how to go about learning somethign. There's a Bach piece I'd like to record for my Website. Finally having a good crack at Bass Fretboard Basics by Paul Farnen. Two months to fill .... :woot: :bassist:

I have been playing a number of things in my PJB Double Four. Here's what's been on the rack this week:

Carvin Bolt (Blue), Sterling StingRay (Birdy), Samick short scale P (Shorty), Squier Affinity Jazz (Silver). Note how much larger the Jazz body is.

GHS burnished nickel rounds on Blue, stock rounds on Birdy, Pyramid Gold flats on Shorty, and Fender 45 stainless flats on Silver.

One amp to rule them all! Amazing how good the D4 sounds with all of these. I can even get a bit of mild overdrive dialed with Blue & Birdy, and that sounds fantastic.

One of the things that runs through my thoughts as I record for the camera is I'm playing to bass players who are much better players and musicians than I. It's one of those things that takes time to settle. I'm not sure what changes apart from seeing other players putting in the same work. And the real question — who am I really playing to? That's something I saw in all of us and how it came to be a mutually supporting project.

Test came back negative so grandkids are on for this weekend and rehearsals for next week...where I will bring my GK MB212-ii for the first time. Just not digging the MarkBass sound. And thank you for that relation. Your rehearsals should be interesting as you bring in a tone that your band mates won’t be used to. I hope it works out because it’s obvious you enjoy playing through your GK more than the Markbass. Please keep us posted.

Sounds like fun week, GP. At least you were out playing. Question: can you remember what Markbass amp you played through? Driver size? Separates or the other type we all love?

I think it's a MB 1x12 combo. It belongs to the guitarist/sometimes bassist at whose house we rehearsed, so I didn't hafta bring one of mine. If I was gonna play through it a lot, I'd f---* with the EQ and try to get it to reproduce a decent tone(in case you hadn't guessed, I strongly dislike it). If we do any more rehearsals, I'll take one o' mine. Or get there early and make adjustments. Out of consideration for him, I left his settings pretty much as is(was?). FWIW, I played 2 very different basses[Ibby AGB 200 and EB-0]through it. Still yuck.:spit:

When I posted that I had looked the votes around it and, unofficially, it seemed as everyone voted to do away with everything not traditional combo-related. I never said that couldn’t change, but then we know the messenger is always the first one to get it.

Tonight it seems much closer as those who basically wish to leave well enough alone has increased and I’m fine with that.

Actually, RR, I had no qualms about our original decision way back when until it was stirred up last week, which is what this forum is all about.

So after reading the last two pages, I’m ending the vote with returning back to allowing the B15 to exist in our club because of its uniqueness. Other than that, no other combination of head and cabinet will be considered.

The components have to be in a single chassis, though they can be removable like the Markbass combos. So in other words, we move neither forward or backward from our first attempt to define what a combo is. The gavel is smacked down, case closed.

Time to go listen to some Pomplamoose and chill from a long week. If ya can, play some bass this weekend.
