I had to update some stuff on facebook, and started looking through some old images. I don't think I have posted this one here and it is definitely the best image I have of my combo.

For this venue the sound guy likes the bass to be a side wash. I probably don't need the extension cab here... but I bring it anyway.

Oh, but you can plug a combo, like Fearless Leader's Rumble Stage 800, into a bigger 4 ohm speaker cab! And it'll handle it just fine. Today's combos are much more than those of yesteryear. Thus the revelry of this club!

‘It’s true. Unlikely perhaps, but if the opportunity ever arises I’ll be sure to take advantage of it. The 800 does offer a lot of flexibility...for a combo.

I celebrated by trying to fall asleep before midnight. Didn't happen unfortunately.

Happy 2021, Doc! I stayed up to after two learning and playing music. I’m finding it’s easier to nap during the day than to try and catch eight hours at night. My most creative time is after 10:30 PM. It’s my vision of retirement life.

Hang in their, Intrepid, and let’s race to the summer of ‘21. BTW, been bringing the violin bass out a little more and finding it relaxing to play because of its ease around the fretboard.

Does anyone here have the Peavey Max 208 combo? If so what are you thoughts on it? I play mostly electric bass with a jazz band. So I'm looking for nice clean tone. Most of the demos I have seen have used the overdrive.


Yes, I am already a member of the combo club. I have a Hartke Kickback 10 that I use for rehearsals and some gigs. Nice amp. I was thinking of the Peavey being a nice alternative with the speaker higher off the ground.

tuba, how are ya? I remember you. Believe it or not, a month ago I was secretly giving serious consideration to grabbing their 2x8 Peavey combo because I was intrigued by the design. I really wanted the Elf 2x8 but thought the Peavey might be a better, less expensive option.

I finally decided against it and bought a preamp pedal instead, but as Morrighan and I have pondered, we think there’s something to multiple eights.

The challenging part is finding someone who has played through or even purchased one of these combos. I can only think of one of our members in the past six months who owns one of the new line of Max combos, the 115, I believe. Keep checking back to see if anyone comes forward with some info.

Had them tonight rubbed with maple syrup, spicy mustard, garlic salt, and butter. Heavenly, and they weren’t too green!

I Predict Flat screen combos, like those Flat screen TV's but with project able micro drivers, instead of LED's... so you can choose where your sound goes to .... but not in the near future.

A Kzin is a very tall and very strong cat-like humanoid, and smiling at one means you are presenting a challenge. Kzin greatly fear human females and some hold we are of another species. A soft weapon is full of surprises — for Kzin.

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize that. You didn't specify, and then you mentioned MarkBass, so ... . . . But, yes, you're correct, most combos that can run external speakers are usually limited to 8 ohm cabs.

But my point is that there are now some combos that can run an external 4 ohm load along with their internal 8 ohm speaker(s). Want SPL? Add a couple 8 ohm 410s to a Rumble Stage 800 and blast away thru 10 x 10s! I don't expect that Fearless Leader has done that yet, ... but he could!

Yeah, my home contractor has advised me against causing seismic tremors at the homestead. Something about foundational integrity. Still, it might’ve a fun experiment.

Hey combo club. I'm going to start hanging out here more. I'm kind of obsessed with combos. I've only owned a couple but am constantly on the lookout for all-in-one solutions.

My first combo and bass amp ever was an SWR Basic Black 115.

My favorite combo is a GK I made. I gutted two backline 112 combos, added Kappalite 3012HOs and an MB Fusion 500 to the headspace in one. It was a pretty formidable 212 modular setup. The small cabs are only tuned to about 80hz but that seemed to do well in a mix and loud as hell.

Right now I'm thinking about buying a Rumble 500c.

But I'm really on the lookout for a Mesa Carbine 212 combo or even empty combo cab.

If anyone wants to part with a 212 Carbine combo empty or loaded please contact me.

I should have been much more specific! Back in the mid-late 1980s, I used to play in a D&D campaign where the Kzin were the most feared race we could run into. The DM would throw them at us when he thought we were feeling invincible. After the first run-in, everyone gave the Kzin a great deal of respect. After the second one, we knew to bow out as soon as they were rumored to be on the scene.

Well, the Kzin are not native to D&D, but our Dungeon Master created stats for them and tossed them into his world for us to run into. They pretty much were feared killing machines. It was the 1980s, so we were pretty young then.

I think he called them the Kzinti. I didn't know until years later that he pulled them from a book.
