Thanks. I may have to bite the bullet and just try out the elf myself. I think the largest place I could see myself playing in the next year or two would be a coffee shop or the choral room at our school which seats up to 100 I believe. Beyond that would be an auditorium of about 500 seats, but in that situation I would probably be mic'd up.

I know my 115 is up to these tasks, I'm just thinking it's damn heavy and big and it also lives in my basement so that means lugging up and down at least one flight of stairs regardless of where it's going. So I'm either looking to add or more likely swap to a high quality, smaller rig in the next year or so.

I'll be using my Rumble 40 tonight for the jazz gig (part deux). 40W/10" spkr. Plenty for the situations you describe. 16 lbs. (I also have the R100, and R200c-which doesn't get used that much any more.

I'm really only looking at 10 or 8" combos at this point. I don't think the 40 would give me quite enough volume but maybe you have some experience to share?

Does anyone here have any experience with the Rumble Studio vs the standard Rumble as well?

Collective TB wisdom holds that 8 inch speakers can't do the bass thing until someone is rude enough to say, out loud and in front of people, "SWR Henry 8x8". At which point someone else says the poll is invalid because there is no "carrots" option.

What I can state is two 7 inch drivers in a PJB cab delivers a lot of luscious bass. We've club members with Markbass 1x8 combos who are absolutely happy with their choice. I've no experience there. My experience with the Elf head is positive. It's its very own thing and some are going to love it and some are going to hate it. Bring up the gain for some hair and there's some compression that goes with it. To me, it sounds very musical, as does the EQ. I play my Elf (and 2 PJB Cab 27s) a lot and prize the modularity.

And on the subject of modularity, were I poised to play an Elf combo, I'd go for the 1x10 to match with the 1x10 extension cab. Word at the Elf club is the 1x10 is a little warmer, a little smoother than the 2x8. Depends on what sound you've in mind to sculpt ....

Nice review, Morrighan. I’m dying inside that I haven’t gotten to audition any of the new TE or Peavey stuff. It may not even be my cup of tea, but I’d sure like to find out. Gosh, if there was only someone working on purchasing one of these combos!

I played my stingray thru the Peavey Max 208 tonight. It sounded great. Using my Sansamp with it is huge and warm. Early returns are that it's a keeper.

First impressions are great. It is not light, but not super heavy. Very solid construction. The height is perfect for my 17 piece big band, as we all sit to rehearse and perform. The tone shaping works very well. The Kosmos-c is no joke. You can feel and hear the difference. The knobs turn slowly but smoothly. It really feels like and sounds like a premium product. I've only played around on it for 15 minutes. I'll know more as I get familiar with it. Hopefully we'll get back to rehearsing.

You’re off to a good start, young man. Please reflect as you see fit. It’ll change a little as it breaks in, but the fact you like the sound of it right away is a good sign.

Westy, you might consider the Peavey line. I look at it as TE at a more competitive price point. You could run with this 2 X 8 here for four bills as opposed to the TE 1 X 10 combo for nearly six. It’s worth taking a look at.

Reviews are good. Granted it's a guitar amp, but it seems like fun, and I may get one just for the novelty.

And freshens the air as it produces sound! Curiously strong as well.

What I've toyed with is recording direct from the combo with the mike (when I have a mike) appearing on video to be recording the Ampeg BA108v2+

That said, running the Elf on high gain is going to mean compression. Dime the gain and get fuzz. Players looking for clean at full gain and full master will want to look elsewhere ....

Hey, why am I up so early on a a Sunday morning? Boyish excitement, I guess. We’re Looking at a whopper snowstorm starting tonight and continuing possibly to July. European models are indicating up to 16” in our area.

But I don’t pay attention to European models...way too scrawny.

Another part of me hears Phi Lesh's Guild Starfire loaded with Wickersham wizardry ... so full on YES to the semi-hollowbody I play

Two very different tones, love them both ... a Fender Studio 40 could get me most of the way there for low volume and/or recording ... In the meantime the VTBass gets that overdriven power section sound out of a practice amp

And Fender added a certain fruit-flavored model that’s got built-in grit. Not one of their best, but with some tweaking it’s more than serviceable.

Actually, I like your Studio 40 idea. Call me crazy, but I think you could easily small gig with one. There’s lots to play with to find the tone you seek for a particular song.

So- made the move to ‘consolidate’ my equip... sold my MB Nano 300 head (as I, almost, never used it) & my MB NY121 cab (as I almost never used it)... got a second CMD121P- will serve as both! Had a cable made which enables both cabs to run from 1 head so, if I take both combos- I have ‘all-in-one’!
