I'm certain I've read here about modeling programs before one takes to the saw.

Subjects I stand to learn about with this project: cabinet volume. Ported vs sealed. Power. Wiring. Speaker fill.
Like I said this one I think I'm gonna try some Eminence Cali drivers and see how they do. I'll keep an eye out for a blown combo to play with. When I had my darkglass head it sounded great through the markbass 310s. Maybe I'll take on a DIY darkglass combo after I learn through this.

With some experience in speaker/cabinet design, all I can and will say is...good luck to you and you have received some attention (maybe that's the point).

I’m leaning more towards Ampeg 15” at this point- I’m not thrilled with the weight, but the Rumble 200 is a bit more that I can swing at the moment. I like the idea of trying them side by side with one or two of my own basses-
I’m sure by this time tomorrow I’ll be back on the Rumble train...

I’ve known several people from there. I grew up further up the valley in El Paso.
That would be Morrighan about a million posts ago. Quite the discussion going this evening. I’m enjoying just reading but if I had to vote, it’s be a polite NO. I equate the revision much the same as sticking a car seat in a Corvette. You can, but why?
Building your own cab and adding it to your 210 makes way more sense, even though I respect the desire to be a creative tinkerer.

Interesting idea. I see pluses and minuses here. On the plus side, you get a 15” speaker with decent power. Is there a DI? If not, toss her back into the ocean. Never playing they one, I’ve read some nice things about their separates, so I’d say that’s good.
I suppose a negative is it’s weight, but even ten years ago that wasn’t that much. Keep in mind though, A Fender Rumble 100 is a hundred-watt combo that weighs only 22 lbs and had a still decent 12” Eminence speaker.
I’d like to hear what you think of the aluminum driver. I think their paper driver gets more kudos, but if you like the brighter sound then you’ll be fine. If you’re more of an old school guy like me it may be too modern for your ears.
$329 is not a bad price and Sweetwater’s service is quite good, but I would still check around to see if you could get it under three bills. Amazon might be a less expensive purchase, perhaps.
If you don’t see anything that flaps your wings as well, then I’d take a serious look at it. I own a Behringer DI pedal and definitely like the sound, though I admit its inexpensively built.

I’ve heard good reports about the sound, but be warned that their power ratings are inflated. I’m not sure how they arrive at them (possibly they use peak power), but at least halve that number, and you’re closer to the truth. But there’s no arguing with the price.
The weight, however, would be the deal breaker as far as I’m concerned.
I just picked up my Bugera BXD15A for $100 from a friend of mine. Yes the Combo has a DI. I've compared the BXD15A to my Rumble 500 combo in a side by side comparison and this is what I've found:
When adjusted at roughly the same settings (volume, gain, and rough EQ), the Rumble has way more boominess (It rattles everything in my music room) and is a tad bit louder due to the low and high mid presence at the same volume and gain settings. The Bugera is more well rounded and has a more modern clear sound IMO. When I first switched from the Bugera to the Rumble, it was like I threw a blanket over the rumble. It sounded completely muffled. The Bugera can rattle everything in my music room, but the Bass EQ has to be at around noon with the Ultra Lo button engaged (I leave it engaged all the time). The Bugera can get just as loud or louder than the Rumble (which is about as loud as I would want to go anyway) and has tons more clarity and brightness than the Rumble. When turned up, the Rumble felt like it was about to fart out with my downtuned P-Bass. The Bugera however sound nice, clear, and deep. The Rumble is lighter and is easier to carry around, but I can say that the Bugera is the clear winner for me IMO. The aluminum speaker really works wonders in the Bugera. The Bugera also feels more solidly built than the Rumble and can tilt back so another plus for the Bugera.
And there ya go. This is why the Combo Club exists. Great points, b90. Plus, for a $100, you can’t a much better deal!
@iagtrplyr - yes to BXD15a having a DI (that would be a deal breaker IMO).
I have that Behringer BDI 21 DI box- I think it’s awesome for the $30!! Really small spaces, I just use the DI box into the PA. Gets an OK SVT type sound- certainly adds character to the line signal from the bass. Going in “dry” is a bit sterile!
As for the aluminum cone- I’m not really chasing after “modern” sounds, but reviews say the speaker can do a lot of tones- and keep that 15” a bit more focused while still pumping out the low thump.
At that price, with that power (NOT 1000w, but more than the 125w of Rumble 200 without extension cab, and more than 150W of BA115v2) I think it would be the best power and value for $$. Also, a little folding dolly would make schlepping a bit less...of a hassle.
it also has FX send/return, “Tuner” out that can run another cab (they say) and an adjustable onboard compression. Also a 5-position (sort of parametric) mid-range selector that focuses the frequency of the mid EQ knob... and hi/low boost as well.
