Bryson never boring- his “Short History of Nearly Everything” was my latest read of his- brilliant!!
Middle English!!!! Our teacher was kind enough to have us read Chaucer in that! One tale only, and only a couple of pages etc. but I Loved it- all the history etc!!! Here’s a Saxon (pre Norman, <1066)…

haha yeah well to this day I can speak and read Middle English. There's not a lot of call for it. My medieval lit professor was a chain smoker

yes this was long ago. And in recalling him, he urged me to summer holiday on a dig. Interesting path. But yeah, not a lot of call for Middle English. If we're going to go through the Labyrinths, you may notice The Lady Door reading Mansfield Park.
