Here's a nice sounding demo of the GB74 (I think) with a looper effect going on too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6wG71TR2_0

I'm still newly "hip" to all the Cort stuff - I had no idea really that Cort existed until just recently (no big US dealers in my area, for sure). But the more I check them out & now that I own (and LOVE an Artisan A5), the more I want add a few more of these fine instruments. These are some really great sounding & playing instruments, huge value-to-cost ratio, IMO. I think a GB75 or perhaps a Cort Elrick will be the next for me.

Edit: Sorry to the TB'er who uplinked this same clip a couple of pages back in this thread. I missed it when passing through the previous pages.

I got a Cort Mark Egan B-stock ABG off ebay a few months ago for $250. It lacks a signature and has a bit of finish checking. This thing listed as high as a Tacoma, so it was a super deal really. A chunky ABG capable of putting out some punchy snarly tone. Intonation is amazingly good, too.
Another less common instrument line in the US that bears mention is Crafter.

Thanks - I don't know how much the figuration may vary within the Artisan models, but this one grabbed my attention immediately. I had to have it. I've recently been surfing the net & E-Bay in search of Cort Elrick pics, and I have noticed some fairly wide swings in the figurations from mild to wild so to speak, but nothing out of the ordinary from what you'd find in other manufacturer's lines. But it sure is nice when you nab a hot one - I feel fortunate this one came my way. :)

Man stingray, after hearing that clip of the GB74 and I'm in love with it. Theres a A5 for sale a couple states up thats pickup only that might go for cheap. I guess I can justify by saying I already have three 4 strings and need a 5er.

How close of a sound do the artisans and GBs have? (For anyone who may know) Of if someone has a clip of their A5 I would majorly dig it.

I have not played the GB75 - only seen a few YouTube clips. Loving what I have heard though...

Here is a short clip of me playing along very sloppily with 311's Amber with the Cort Artisan A5. A few things about the clip before anyone starts to rip & rag on it (LOL!):

The clip is straight into a $50.00 SoundBlaster Audigy soundcard, not a million dollar recording studio. No preamps, no effects, no compression, no EQ, etc., added - just straight into the pc. I had the mids up about 25% and the bass & treble flat. In retrospect, I should have given a slight bass boost to compensate for the slap brightness. I realize the real bassline is all fingerstyle, but I alternate between slapping the bassline & fingerstyle cause I know some people are interested in how both sound.

The bass part is up as loud as I could get it without it sounding extremely detached from the song, but I think it should give a good idea of what the Artisan sounds like direct to a computer.

P.S. - I have heard the song many times, but this is literally the first time I have tried to play it. So, you will hear me reaching for and quite sucessfully finding many sour notes! LOL! Anyway, try to enjoy! :rollno: :)

I've played a few corts and they have all been really good basses, says something for their quality control. I'm looking at getting a new 5 string and the Rob Elrick 5 is near the top of the list, especially for the price ~AU$700. Considering an OLP 5 string is $550 i think thats a very very good price for a 35" scale 5 string with an active pre-amp and a zero fret.

Could anyone give me a ballpark description of the cort RB5 tone, I play fast metal with 3 guitarists and a loud drummer and need something thats going to cut well. I'll be using a Behringer V-amp pro and a warwick profet 5.1 into two trace elliot 1518T cabs.

thanks.

It's a base model PB-1L, customised with a Dimarzio Model One Humbucker, and Yamaha RBX P-pickups. My initial goal was to model it after a Yamaha Attitude Bass (which I ended up playing one) and IMO this sounds better, for less than a quater of the cost heheh :hyper:
