I had an opportunity to get an Artisan B4 stupid cheap at a GC clearance and passed on it. It really felt and sounded good, and I wish I would have pulled the trigger. :bawl:

The clearance sale at GC is the very reason I bought my Artisan B4. I was amazed at how well it played and how comfortable it was when I strapped it on. For the price they were charging, I just couldn't pass it up. :bassist:

Updated picture of mine from page 3. Got a new Canon Rebel so I can take pretty pictures of my basses now!

Sorry for the late post - been tweaking & playing & loving the GB-75. Initial thoughts have pretty much been echoed here already - a lot of versatility in regards to range of tone. This bass packs a powerful wallop - a ton of punch going on down deep. This bass nails a round & punchy 70's J-bass tone, IMO. It is a slap machine for sure. Can't say I'm overwhelmed by the stock MM-style pickup when trying to emulate a dead-ringer Stingray slap tone, however the bridge pickup does sound awesome in all other regards, it gives incredible punch & definition. The jazz single coil is clear & deep (being in the neck position). I could see using either pickup by themselves but when both pickups are working together, this is when it's time to get the funk out :bassist: Actually, I'm really digging the stock MightyMite pickups - I was thinking about dropping Barts in their place based on reviews I've read. But now that I've played it, I can honestly say I'm in absolutely no hurry to do that - YMMV. The highs can get metallic sounding if you boost them too much, but are not inherently in the "flat" tone settings of the preamp. Overall, I'm thrilled with this bass - highly recommended you try one out or better yet, buy one straight away. :D Been playing way too long tonight, so pics will follow later.

Here's a very short & cheesy little clip of me playing along to a song with the GB-75. No compression, EQ, etc - as always, straight into the pc's soundcard. It should give a ballpark idea of one of the many tones available. There is no slap bass in the original version or slides, etc. Tried to play it more aggressively to set the GB75 apart from the real bassline.

Edit: (full song uploaded)

man , I'm am SOOO gonna look into ordering one of these on monday, you guys have sold me.
how's it compare to your A5? I'm real curious to see how it's sounds because I'm loving the j/mm set up in my lakland as far as choices in tone.....
and what did you pay for yours? thanks...

Given the more traditional type of pickups in the GB-75, it has a more supportive, percussive sound to it - a classic J-Bass type of tone with the ability to get into aggressive bite territory whereas the A5 is definitely more of a modern scooped humbucking type of sounding with the Bartolini MK1 preamp & pickups. I'm loving the range of tones at my disposal between the two. :)

As far as pricing goes, I'll have to recommend you to www.jivesound.com - Jong is a great guy (and fellow TB'er). He is a real professional & a pleasure to do business with. I'm sure he will treat you right - highly recommended.

That's a fine clip. The GB75 delivers the sort of tone I imagined. I really liked that Chuck Rainey sort of slap you did!:)

Thank You - glad you liked the clip. I wish I were as good as Chuck Rainey. :hmm: The flat tone records great - with a little EQ'ing (which is not done in that clip), you can get some amazing tones on a track. I'm going to do a little studio work in a week or two and was planning on using the Artisan, but not anymore - the GB-75 is coming with me. :)

Stingray, thanks for the offer! I didn't even notice that were are both in the same area. If you can, come to the area GTG at Mojo's Music in Edwardsville, Saturday, July 21, 12-4.

Man, I think this is 2 GTG's now that I will have to miss. :crying:
My gig schedule is literally every weekend through October - my Saturday afternoons are always tied up watching my 2 young boys until my wife gets home from work, then I have to burn rubber to a gig. It's hard work, but it affords me some nice Cort basses - LOL. But I'm serious on the offer - when you get closer to ordering one, shoot me a PM & you're more than welcome to check mine out if you feel like it.
