Hi again. Changed the strings now, tightened the truss rod a bit (a little less than half a turn), adjusted intonation.

The thing has a bit high action, and when trying to lower it, that worked on all strings but the 2nd. That string (D-string) get fretbuzz from about 15th fret and up even with pretty high action.

Is it a good idea to tighten the truss rod even further (it still has a very visible curvature) when you get fret buzz on the higher frets to get a bit lower action overall?

This started out as a Cort.

Thats the same bridge as my C4H [ Killer Bass ] , what is the 3rd allen screw for on the saddle ? [ the one below the starboard screw ] , ive had it out and its only about 2mm long , looks like more of a locking screw than anything . My action is very playable but Id like to go a bit lower , im putting lighter guage strings on in a few days which will help but the saddles seem to have run out of height adjustment .

I just picked up one too , absolute killer Bass , sort of a cross between a Musicman and a Status tone .... I like the medium scale feel of it too even though its full 2 octave . only 2 problems , its really weighty and I cant seem to get the action as low as I want , still a fast player though , after years of playing everything under the sun I like this Bass A LOT and me thinks its a keeper !!
Severely underrated bass , love the pearloid Binding and comfortable narrowish neck , finish is top notch too . Id like a link to a user manual for the 3 screw bridge adjustment though , cant seem to find one anywhere , is it a hipshot ?? .

Well .... seeing as nobody else has answered this question I'll have a crack at it.

I don't have a GB35A .... I've got the 4 string version, the GB34A. I'm also a rank beginner ... this is my first bass and I'm merely a self-taught guitar player so my opinions probably aren't very valuable .... I'll share them anyway for what they're worth.

I love the GB34A. I spent quite a bit of time shopping for a bass, checking out and playing quite a few instruments of different brands and in different price brackets ... both new and second hand. Despite my inexperience I quickly developed preferences for feel and playability (keep in mind I'm a rank beginner). I was also looking for flexibility in tone from the instrument because I'm not sure of the tone I'm looking for yet and I wanted to keep the costs low.

I narrowed my choices down to a Squier Affinity Series Jazz, an SX Jazz and the Cort GB34A ... all roughly the same price. Of the three, the Cort offered active electronics and the MM/J style pup configuration. The fit and finish of the Cort was actually slightly better than the Squier and the SX with smoother fret ends, a smoooooth satin finish neck and a nicer body finish (although the finish could be just a little better at the bottom of the neck pocket ... not really noticeable unless you look for it). I like that the Cort is styled similarly to a J bass with a few little tweaks ... just enough to be a little different. 22 frets, slightly different headstock, graphite nut, solid bridge, jack on the bottom of the body as opposed to the front, etc.

As far as the sound of this bass goes, I don't really have much to compare it to. I'm playing through a Behringer 30W practice amp with single 10" speaker. This bass features a master volume, pup blend and stacked treble/bass controls. Normally I've play with both the bass and the amp EQ'd flat and I've got a wide range of tones just from varying the blend of the J neck pup thru to the fat MM humbucker bridge pup. The tone from the humbucker is just wide and fat and deep without being muddy. I've also got the option of onboard boosting or cutting either treble or bass before I even start fiddling with the amp's EQ.

I'm just a beginner so take my findings with a pinch of salt, but I love my Cort GB34A ... its not too heavy, its nice to play and it is capable of a wide variety of tones ... and I really haven't fully explored all the sounds its capable of.

Obviously, this is not a top of the line instrument, but I can see that this bass will carry me a long way before I ever start to feel limited by my equipment. I can't imagine me ever selling this instrument as I'd probably keep it as a back-up if I ever feel the need to upgrade to a better bass.

I would expect the GB35A to be very similar to the 34A ... only with an extra string.

i owned a cort b4 for ages and then sold it on to my nephew as he started playing bass,i never really found a sound that i liked, expected it to be better considering its bartolini pick ups. anyway it just wasnt my thing.have owned a few basses in my time,4 and 5 strings.today i went into belfast to get a new five string and after trying out an ibanez sr 505,a squier deluxe jazz 5 and then a cort gb35a i came home with the cort.why ?,the reason is simple...i loved the sound and feel.lovely sound when running just the mm humbucker at the bridge, found it great for funk/fingerstyle,and then running the two pick ups together(jazz pick up at neck and mm pick up at bridge)i got a great sound for slapping as well.this is only my opinion,as its all about personal taste.as mentioned over the years i have owned some high end basses, fenders etc but in my opinion the cort gb35a is a great bass in sound..feel and construction. i was able to get the action set nice and low after re stringing it with a set of ernie balls with a heavy gauge low b.sorry to ramble on but i will end by saying that just because you shell out a lot of money for a bass does not mean its going to sound or feel good to you,i found that out the expensive way. must go now and continue enjoying my new purchase

I think I can now join this club (although I should probably join the Ibby club too :p )

I looked through guitar stores around Sydney for something I'd like. I didn't even know who T.M. Stephens was, I just liked the way it played and sounded :bassist:

These TM Stevens Sig, model basses are great. I've had mine (new) since 2001, I think and it's the cheapest bass out of the 5 that I own, yet the one I play the most. As soon as played it in the shop I bought it pretty much as an impulse buy because of the playability and versitile sound. I just wish it was made up of better woods like the other A4's & B4's. Some pics of mine ...
