I have those pedals seperately but have never really liked the sound of aenima on bass as much as I thought I did from clips I heard,... probably just need to fiddle with it more,...
think need to fiddle with using my K5 as the output on my fretless and being active just seems to put the pedals into insane unusable noise mode...

my next experiment is where to place VFM on the board, some things it likes other times it seems like the signal is too hot and it has no attack and then almost volume pedals into existance had this issue with the bass fuzz and sold that cos couldnt figure it out but forgot how someone esaid to fix the issue easily...

I can confirm that the Bit works fantastically with actives. It's character is a "Bit" different (sorry). With a passive, it is much more of a choked 8-bit sound. With an active, it becomes a very nasty gated fuzz, although you can still do 8-bit sounds if you play staccato. I have some clips in the effects wiki of the Bit with an active Carvin.

I had the Aenima single a while back and mostly used it on guitar (for which it is absolutely fantastic). But I did use it on bass on occasion, mostly for solo/intro/break type stuff. It's based on the Torn's Peaker, so it will drop some lows; there really is nothing you can do about that. I'm gonna be using the Hype for normal fuzz stuff, and I kinda look at the Aenima as a boost/noise/chaos/holycrap mode for the Hype. I'll definitely let you guys know how it goes.

My twin is in!!! Only got to play it for a few minutes. But damn, the Hyperion just SLAYS. It just slaughters the big muff, and can do way more tones, too.

As posted earlier, I have a Shoe Gazer and love it, but sometimes I want to try out the other Devi Pedals. However...I'm a little worried they're going to be too similar or something. Because the Shoe Gazer is so extreme in its sound, I kind of feel like anything else would only be a slight difference.

Also, I consider her ridiculous fuzzes to be lower-priority than, say, getting a good delay pedal to start with, so I'm not really into spending $200 on one. In addition, I have a Bass Big Muff on the way and I've never tried one of those.

So basically -- given that I have a Shoe Gazer and BBM, is there one of her $100 pedals that you would consider to be a must-buy? Something that sounds a lot different, something that holds the low end fairly well.

edit: I have a P-style with flatwounds and a Jaguar Bass with roundwounds. I'm primarily going to be using the Jaguar once it's refinished, if that makes any difference.

For me either the Karaoke Party and/or the Dark Boost are must haves , [both fall into the overdive department] hence why I had a dual made with those two circuits. The KP is very transparent and goes from gritty to light fuzzy and the DB does THICK, clean to dirty and really thick.


Oh yeah.... also look into the OK, now that is a fun little pedal!

oh and my tid bit,...

the SMBH used to not work very well with my actives and the way I setup the onboard EQ,... im pedantic about setting things up one way and then leaving it,... ended up just easier to sell it off,...

also have a bit of trouble with the VFM but nowhere near as much,...

Cherry pop and hype have been fine with actives,... sure probably sounds different to passive basses but tis a whole world of hurt ;)

the SMBH / Bass Fuzz was a circuit designed by Alan Pavlica (Mountainking Electronics) which he is planning on modding and putting out as the Magnetar sometime this year:

you can also check out his Megalith pedal which is a dual gain-stage fuzz that works equally as well on guitar and bass, and has a ton of control for the shaping of the tone. I am pretty much using that Megalith pedal and his Behemoth pedal exclusively now. The SMBH/Bass Fuzz was kind of a stripped down version of the circuit, very BIG FUZZ but more nasal on the top end and lacking a bit in depth and richness

I had the SMBH for a bit but let it go after I got the Mountainking pedals - here's a full band track from my band using the Megalith and Behemoth on bass - the more fuzzed out part is the Megalith (SMBH/Bass Fuzz circuit):

I also have the Aenima which I use on guitar to get a perfect Adam Jones (Tool) sound which I believe was the purpose of the design (we are also using the same drop C# tuning as Tool and this combo just produces a dead-on Undertow guitar sound) - on bass, not so hot, a lot of low end loss

I am interested in the Ruiner as well as the Never Drive for Bass and the new Dwarfcraft run of the Dream Mangler for guitar which is essentially a DF and a VFM twin with a joystick control - Dwarfcraft have a video demo of that on their site on guitar:

I'm really starting to get GAS over the Hyperion from the sound clips I've heard.

For you guys who have one or have tried it, does it react much differently with active basses compared to passive and how distinct is it? Does it get indistinct when playing fast? I know fuzzes are meant for being fuzzy but I'm just curious on how it sounds specifically with bass. If I do pick one up and I don't like it with bass, I'll probably keep it for guitar work if the videos on Youtube are accurate :D

Oh man, I didn't even know you could get twin pedals custom made...time to save up for one of those. I'm thinking Never Drive for the first part of the chain, but not too sure about the other yet.

Also, is the Shoe Gazer as noisy for you as it is for me? When engaged, I get the high hissing sound as if the volume on my amp is all the way up. It's not much an issue when you're playing, but if you have the strings muted it's really noticeable...the few times I've recorded to PC it's obstructive. But I think it might be a given due to the nature of this pedal.

I guess I could EQ it out.
