The direction music is headed?

It's a misguide argument to start a discussion about the state of music today with an example from the bottom of the aesthetic barrel. Look at the thick layer of quality at the top! I mean, even disregarding what your particular pet genre is, there is a lot of good music floating around. Granted, there's an equal amount of sludge floating around, but just ignore it.

Turn the channel, visit another video, find an quality Internet radio station, (insert one of hundreds of other options). Turning on FM radio hasn't been an effective method to good music in a very very long time, but nowadays that's not a particular problem.

I'm not saying "quitcherwhinin'" because I want to be concescending, but because it's a very real choice we all have. We can focus on the crap, or we can focus on the gold. I promise you it's more rewarding to fill your life with good music than to wallow in snide superiority.

No slam on Adam Hood. Miranda Lambert is the total package. She writes, plays, sings, and, as a bonus, is extremely easy on the eyes.

She's the only mainstream female country artist that I can think of lately that's made me stop and actually listen. Saw a live show of hers not too long ago. Excellent in every way.

For one, I believe the Rebecca Black song was merely a marketing ploy at the expense of an average girl. I think it was meant to intentional display the gullibility of the audience. NOBODY would purposely write those lyrics, choose a nasally teen, insert cliche 2011 music components (lame rapping black guy breakdown, auto-tune, etc.) without first having reasoning. It was a genius marketing ploy - and there are a few people sitting somewhere laughing and toasting to themselves about the success of their horrible song, saying "I told ya so!"

Obviously, the vast majority of people are viewing that as a joke (5x more dislikes than likes)...but I know people who say "oh this song sucks" but then Friday night they are all blasting it in their car with their friends pretending like they still hate it. That's the humorously sad part.

You know, on second thought, I do feel sorry for that girl. All she received was a lot of nasty comments only because her family has allowed her to become a manufactured artist instead of letting her grow into becoming one. Who knows, maybe with musical and instrument training she may be able to distance herself from this sad episode. :atoz:

Very true indeed! Good music is still out there, but nowadays you have to dig a bit deeper.

I'm not too worried about the direction music is headed. There's plenty of awesome stuff coming out every year to keep me satisfied. I'm so glad I don't have to cling to the same old tired classic 70s rock/metal. And I don't know why most radio stations have to promote that. Considering they're the most accessible way to hear music one would think they not play the same songs for 20-30 years.

The majority of the attention this specific video gets is negative. Why be bothered about some music production company with a target audience of 13-17 year old girls. Of course what they release will be cheesy and shallow. Go look at the Whip My Hair video too, it's basically the same situation except not as big.

I believe youtube.com pays $1 per 1,000 views. And, I believe one needs to have a 'channel'.

So, at 38,000,000 views, that would earn $38,000.

Definitely more income that 99% of all other 'musicians'. :D

This IS where music is heading. And probably no one on this forum saw this coming.

The pay out isn't that high...but you get paid if your channel has commercials on them........
and youtube videos with commercials on them ARE ANNOYING AS ####:mad:

cant stand that krap so dont do it...its not worth it....dont destroy youtube with garbage commercials.:rollno:

Huh. I didn't realize you could make money like that either on YouTube. I knew there was money to be made, I just didn't know it was purely for views...

"Friday" is now into Lady Gaga numbers with over 43 MILLION views and still jumping around in the iTunes Top 100 list. Looks like this song, as one writer put it, may just be "accidental genius".

If that's so, the publishing company gets 1/2 the money, of which she might get 1/2 of that, with the other half going to the writers. If those youtube payments are right, and assuming that she made a deal where she gets 1/2 the publishing money (which is probably VERY generous), she's making 1/4 of that sum of money, which would be $9300.

More then likely, she's making even less then that, so she probably got the opportunity to be famous and have everyone in the country know her name with only about $5000 (I'm guessing).
