The direction music is headed?

I've posted a few of them around on talkbass, and they can be found through the links below. They just don't get the numbers like that girl, though...

I think what I need is a 'leaked' sex tape. How YOU doin', Auntie?

(I just creeped myself out... I'm actually living at my aunt's house right now, and just had BAD thoughts run through my head.... I think I'll take a shower now...)

I've clicked on your links and thought you've got some great stuff! My guess is, in order to hit those kind of numbers, you simply cover a Barney tune. :D

Where is your source? That is news to me...

You can start here.

About 55,000,000 views. :D

Apparently, she (or the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] behind her) has made [This invalid link has been removed].:eek::eek:

If she walks away with 20% after this blows over, she'll have made more money in the music business that EVERYONE on TB, except for maybe one or two.

Thanks. I appreciate the compliment.

Barney might do it, but I think the sex tape is the way to go... What you doin' tomorrow? I have the day off and a camera... Just sayin'.... No pressure...

Mainstream music will always be superior to artistic music - artistically, morally and philosophically.
I think the average musician has far more atrocious taste than the average 10-year-old. Kids that age aren't jaded yet, aren't trying to convince themselves that they're better than those "sellout" successful musicians, and aren't out to prove that they're smarter and more cultured than other kids who like other music. They still mostly want music to sound good and have lyrics about stuff that's interesting to them. Musicians, on the other hand...
This is funny stuff. Lots of presumptions in here, some of them rather insulting. "Sounds good" and "interesting" are very subjective terms. You seem to be assuming otherwise, that people who listen to non-mainstream music are just forcing themselves to do it to look cool.

My musical tastes are simply my tastes, not an attempt to look smarter or more cultured. Just to give a couple of examples from the '80s, I really loved the Minutemen and Husker Du (still do). I thought they sounded worlds better and had lyrics that were much more interesting to me (in short, I had a much more enjoyable listening experience) than, say, Def Leppard and Poison. Many more people liked the latter-bands--few of them probably ever heard the former. Are the latter bands morally, philosophically or artistically superior? No.

If fans of unpopular music get to be presumptious, insulting and make uncharitable assumptions about people they don't like, then why shouldn't I? I've played artistic music and I know a lot of the people who play it are nice and never killed anyone, but I never fit in any of those scenes. They all subconsciously but carefully avoided doing anything the average plumber might enjoy, and I was never concerned with impressing girls with humanities degrees. Ultimately they all assumed that normal=bad and I never got that.

And of course Def Leppard and Poison are artistically, philosophically and morally superior to Husker Du or the Minutemen. They brought a lot more joy to a lot more lives, which is a good thing, and in a small way also helped millions of teenagers deal with puberty, their first girlfriend, their first breakup etc. I might not like them much either (I'm not really into rock, give me country or pop or hip-hop any day), but I won't deny that they made a contribution to humanity.

The way i like to look at it is that those people who will listen and spend their money on this kind of 'music' aren't the kind of people that would part their cash on a brad mehldau or portico quartet album so theres no loss and i'll be honest i don't know half of the artist so many musicians get angry about as i dont believe a chart has any relevance anymore as the internet allows music consumption to be so vast and not always tracked.

theres music everywhere and if anything theres more than ever and its great

I dare anyone to name a band that came out in the past 10 years that has come close to touching any one of these bands. Double dog dare ya.

Compare bands? That question is impossible to answer because any answer would be wrong to you. :eyebrow:

But I can name bands that have broken the mold, and done something different.

Breaking Benjamin
Murderdolls
Slipknot
Sonata Arctica
Linkin Park
All That Remains
AFI
Pendulum
Lordi

There are a ton of bands out there, love them or hate them that have made great music. Are not mainstream pop music.

People look at the bands they grew up with rose colored glasses. It's an impossible expectation to compare any new band to how YOU remember say, Lynrd Skynrd. Or decry all new music is crap (which it isn't) because your stuck in the past. There is tons of music out there that is different and suits every taste if you can be open minded about it.

Why do singers think they have to scream??? I like some of the new stuff.
....
I don't think there is a single band that cn hold a finger to the old greats like The Who, Led Zepplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stons, Aerosmith, AC\DC etc...

All subjective to taste. I personally find the bands you listed boring as hell. Opinions will always be above everything else.

Edit: ShredderMaximus, check out Mogwai.

I think we don't have to go far to research the beginnings of rock/pop back in the 50's find out that people were saying plenty of negative things about the genre at the time. Up to then people were used to big band music, orchestras, etc. Then suddenly kids were served with 3-chord songs and the same progression for a number of years, from guys and gals we call great today. As music/art changes and branches off into different directions we'll always have people who disagree and think the change represents something negative. From a band perspective, my cover band has adapted to playing a lot of this new rap-candy pop-whatever-you-want-to-call-it but we do it our own way. A lot of this stuff is very adaptable to live bands and actually fun to play. This way we deliver what younger cover band audiences want to hear, we still play our style, and stay in business.

im 100% content with music in 2011.

if you actually leave your house and get off the itunes top 50 list, and go out to a local jazz club, or go to see any major orchestra, or any music festival, or ext ext.. you'll see that music is as alive as ever.

there will always be the "fast food" of music. do top notch chefs sit around grumbling that restaurants in 2011 are terrible because mcdonalds sells so many burgers..? (well, possibly- but theres still good food all over the place.)

Yes yes yes

Meh, this strikes me as another excuse to paint people with a broad brush and lash out.

Well, you hung around with the wrong people and maybe had a lousy band experience. It's not an excuse to generalize about everyone who plays "that" sort of music. Sure, there are snobs, just as there are people who listen to mainstream music not because they enjoy it--but because it might impress the girls around them.

Many of the people from those scenes that I've known want to create music that moves them in some way, and hoped that a lot of other people would feel the same way about it.
And of course Def Leppard and Poison are artistically, philosophically and morally superior to Husker Du or the Minutemen.
Wow. I have no interest in getting into a debate that will inevitably run in circles, but suffice it to say my definitions of these terms are vastly different than yours. I don't think they can be applied in any objective way to music, anyway.

Really? Making peoples' lives happier and better is not something you'd consider morally good?

I have played artistic music of many kinds with many people, mostly nice people, but I never could have the same priorities as them. Avant-pop, psychedelic folk, metal, free improv, classical. Playing children's music or pop is much more fulfilling, and also more challenging than any of those except for classical.

That is my assertion. Making millions of lives (slightly) better is good, and it also sells records. Underground music doesn't have the same impact because it often avoids subjects which are "cheesy and obvious" (in other words, subjects which carry the most meaning and interest for people), and also reaches far fewer people. It's inferior.
