Only in public "polite" conversation. I've been working in the NYC corporate world for going on 25 years - nobody thinks twice about the f word, or any other such word as long as it's not excessive, and it's put to good use. It's part of everyday speech - same in most big cities. Personally, if I encounter someone who's bothered by the f word, I avoid them - probably some sort of nutcase. (At least in NYC...)
My work is filled with professionals in a often stressful environment and this meme often applies more often than not. Let's face it. Swearing can be both a stress release and get a crowd going.
