The Fender Super Bassman 300 thread

He did have the amp on Ebay, i think a lot of people thought it was a scam. I tooka chance and emailed the seller and he got back to me right away. I was still hesitant but figured screw it and went for it. Mike Doughty bought the amp for Catherine to use while they were on a short month long tour. How it all came about is I answered an ad for the amp for sale and never put 2 and 2 together until I actually did a little detective work too. I was skeptical that it was actually him. I did not get to talk to her, I saw and talked to Mike for about 10 minutes while we moved and loaded the equipment. It has a few scuffs on the bottom of the cab and the overdri e volume knob is bent a bit. Overall, it was steal for the price I got it for. Sox, I hope you understand I HAD to jump on this. I was soooooo close to pulling the trigger on your 100t and cab.
Oh man, totally understand. You made a great score there and have a cool story to tell to boot. Good for you for sticking with it and not judging a book by its cover (the low eBay price, which had made me wonder too). My only regret is not driving to NYC and grabbing it first. 
WOOPS I have a Bassman pro 300T (not the super but I will leave the question here.) Thanks for the thread - I just purchased one of these- however I have a transformer problem - the right hand side tranny (viewed from front) is running so hot you can't touch it. It had a blown fuse in one of the tube positions when I bought it so I replaced fuse (but not the tubes which I think is a no no) So member JohnK_10 kindly gave me some advice - thanks John - and its going to a tech for a health check. Does anyone know of known issues with the 300T I should be aware of and have my tech check out?

Quick question. I did not get a foot switch with the cab, which one can I use? I see there are a few different ones out there from Fender.
My 100T sold here on TB last week. My new SB 300 arrives via UPS from Musicians Friend tomorrow. I cannot wait. Weeeeeee....
Arrived. Everything works. Played for a half hour or so through my Neo 410. What can I say? I liked the 100T a lot, but I could tell after two minutes that I will lerrrrrrve the SB 300. I almost certainly have bought my last amp (at least of the main gigging variety). Insanely versatile. Tone to die for.
My next gig isn't till two weeks from now... Can't wait to really put this beast through its paces then.

Wow - played my first gig with the SB and NV412 combo. OMG, what an absolutely unbelievable tone. Our lead player set his vintage Super Reverb up on my side of the stage and let it rip. Fender tone nirvana. The bass was so thick, round and warm - very balanced across all strings. I was hoping it would be a better fit for this band than my Walkabout/HD212 rig and boy, was I right. I know it's early to say this, but that rig will probably only see the light of day when I have my kids and need my entire rig to fit in the trunk of my car.

Played a gig yesterday. The club own was bragging about his bass rig and insisted I play though it. I should have brought my rig, but it was a pretty low key gig, more of a friendly get together so I showed up with only my bass.
It was a old bassman 130w silver face through an Avatar 115 with mid/tweeter. Boy did I miss my SB and neo 410. At coffee shop volume it did alright, actually the tone was very similar in characteristics to my SB, but as soon as the drummer showed up, I was done for. I was able to get through the mix, but forget about getting any clean tone out of it. Fuzz baby, all the way. Early breakup with zero dynamics.
Unless I am really in a bind, I won't be leaving home without my SB any time soon.

Sounds like the Bassman needed some care. I bet the tubes were tired, the caps were old and it probably needed to be biased correctly. My '67 Showman was like that before I rebuilt it and put 7581As in it. But I feel your pain. The SB is a different animal altogether.
For those of you that own the SB and the 410, how does the cab handle the head? I am thinking of pulling the trigger on this setup, and then planning to add another 410 down the road. Trying to keep it somewhat modular. I play pretty loud, and I get away with a 410 at the moment. So if i can just get the 410 and be done I would be even happier.
I was originally thinking the 610, but I dont want anymore tilt back cabs, I want to be able to just roll the amp in on the cab if that makes sense. If i need to get the 610 i will though.

been using mine weekly for 2-3 hours straight, plus home practice for 6-8 months and its kickin a$$ and no problems!.. i used it with a berg NV and its awesome.. i think the SVT cab would just be a different flavor of sealed cab awesomeness.

I finally got promoted at work, so now I get to actually put in an order for a Superbassman setup instead of just drooling over this thread like i have for the last couple years.
Now my dilema is what exactly I want. Black and Silver, or Blonde/Oxblood, do I want the 410, or the 610? First world problems as you can see. I have been told the 410 sounds like the 610, but the difference to me is being able to pop the amp on top of the cab and roll it in, vs carry them seperately.
Then there is always the idea of adding a 2nd 410 later... See what I mean, I do love how the Head looks on top of the 610 though. Astheticly that would be my choice. But one trip from the car ( in most cases) seems much nicer to me then 2. 65lbs is no joke either. hrrrummpff!
