Back in business with a new SB pro in Blonde and Oxblood. I wasn't going to wait for the other to ship from Fender to Sam Ash then to me.
Soooooo, anyone want to trade a black 810 for a 610 or 810 in the Blonde or tell me how hard it is to retolex the 810 cab? LOLOL

So, being a noob toob user, I've been messing with gain/volume settings. Previously, I did like I do with a SS amp - set the gain as high as I can get clean, then turn up the master to set volume.

Now I tried the opposite, I crank the master and turn up the gain to set volume. On the vintage channel, sounds clean, less compressed, a more powerful sound. And quiet too.

But, on the distortion channel, it gets super noisy and hissy when I crank the master, no matter what any of the other channel settings are. Is this just the way that channel's gain staging is implemented, or is something wrong here?

I pulled the back and replaced the fuses and tried all the Molex connectors, but still no luck. I'm stumped.

I had this very problem. Glad to see that you got a new one and are back in business. It happened to me pretty much like you said. I brought it to a certified vendor, and got the call to pick it up two days later. Turned out to be an easy fix, something to do with one of the voltage converters on the interior. Interesting that the same thing is happening to other users.

On another note, i'm going to be trying out that svt setting tonight as well as the orange setting. Would like to see what Tim1 comes up with too.

Sorry, I know I said I would get back with a side by side comparison with the AD200 to find matched settings. Am in the middle of directing a show at the moment and have had to put all else to one side for a few weeks. Neighbours are away till Friday so will try to find the time to crank it a bit at home before they return and see what I can come up with.

I used my Super Bassman at a wedding With my Blues/Jazz band on Sat. I used a new to me Azola Baby Bass (an EUB with a solid body and fretless 36" {I think} scale. Nice built in pre Amp) and was impressed with both the Azola and the sound of it thru the SB300. Nice Woody warm thump. God dbl bass type sound outta the Azola. I forgot to take any pics but I'll post some ASAP.
I again mainly used the vintage channel but I set the active channel up to be clean and a tiny boost Of The upper mids. Both channels sounded great.

A couple years ago I bought an Ampeg 610HLF and PF-500, but had been GASing for the matching SVT-CL ever since. I was dead set on it until a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon the Bass Club Chicago YouTube video demoing the Fender Super Bassman. The tones he was getting in that video had me in awe, and I eventually landed here.

In the past week or so I have read every post in these 79 pages, and you all talked me into it (Rod and Tim should be spokespersons). I pulled the trigger yesterday and should have my new Super Bassman in a few weeks as they are currently out of stock at Sweetwater. I can't wait to hear how it sounds through my 610HLF! Thank you all for being so convincing! (although my wife would probably tell you all she hates you if given the chance )

Best all-round amp I have ever owned. You won't regret it. I was just thinking yesterday that this amp sounds so good straight away that I really have not experimented that much with all the other options available. Just plug into the vintage channel and you won't stop smiling.

Today I had a very nice gig and so I brought the SB300. I hadn't used it since last fall (didn't want to try to carry it through snow and ice covered walks). Anyway, I turned it on, let it warm up, went off standby and . . . NO SOUND. I was able to get a faint distorted sound out of it. Luckily, I had brought a backup amp. The biased lights ran through the cycle and were all green. Any ideas?

I had that exact same thing happen at a gig last month and was totally freaked out until I realized that I had toggled off the speaker output (not standby) switch. Or maybe you have a bad cable?
