It's been ages since I listened to it, but my recollection is that Albert Mangelsdorff's Trilogue album -- a live trio performance from 1977 with Albert on trombone, Jaco on bass, and Alphonse Mouzon on drums -- has a bunch of swinging, straight-ahead(-ish) walking basslines.

It also has a bunch of crazy angular out playing! Great album iirc.

I think Jaco was perfectly located in Weather Report. I don't think he was a convincing straightahead player.
