The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

SCF SWITCH ‐ Side Chain Filter switch has two positions: Normal (N), Deep (D). In Normal position, the Side Chain Filter is set to accommodate a large range of audio signals and instruments. By design, it has an attenuation of lower frequencies below 1 KHz,which allows the compressor to act with a short delay and let lower frequencies pass through without triggering the compression right away. This setting renders a natural response that is suitable for most cases. In Deep (D) position, more of the lower end frequency (an additional ‐12dB@130Hz) is freed up to prevent triggering compressor kicking in too early. This setting lets more of the low end pass through at the output, while also lowering the amount of compression. This is a proper setting for guitar if a fuller sound is needed and especially for bass instrument.

Wow. They really pack this little box with features. I think I want/need one of those in the near future...

It's fantastic that they added the SCF to their mini!

I sent an inquiry email to the fellows at Triode (relative to a bass/beelzebub match) but they haven't responded yet. I'm on a tight pedal board real estate/cash budget right now and this unit has caught my eye as a good fit. I'm looking for warm & tubey (Honey) to full on OD (Sting/Buzz) without tone suck. I havent come across a bass oriented demo yet.

That's cool. But seems to me there's lots of boutique stuff that is nowhere near "easy" to get. I take them all seriously so whatever makes you happy.

Atleast with boutique stUff you can place a order and get it in the allotted build time. I'm not downing the quality at all as they must be good. IM glad we are blessed to have many good choices and builders in this age and time.

Agree. Josh has settled on a method that works best for him and his family. I respect him for doing it his way. If this was his full time gig, he would have more options and he could make that decision accordingly. He also has had many more original designs than most single man operations for a part time gig in the few years he's been at it. Serious enough for me.

Played the Roscoe Classic P with TI flats at church. I love my "modern" 5's but the amount of fundamental you get with flats - and the P I suppose - is so awesome. Still just using the LA-1A as comp and DI, but...

I love the sound I get on my DAW when I use a little Ampeg B-15 mixed in with the "hi end" DI - the Avalon U5. Not that I want to haul and mix both those DI's, but it makes a REDDI all the more tempting.

Ok, haven't been around a minute... still no sign here of the SLO, but slow delivery seems typical for that thing and I'm especially expecting a delay thanks to the virus. I just thought I'd share what I'm liking for my next board revision for fun. For the last few years I have run very simply; AT wireless into Boss MS-3 with a VS-XO and sometimes an EHX Russian in the loops and then out to a MarkBass Super Booster (I found another one if anyone had read my thread about the original having died onstage during a filmed show!)
I'm planning on doing a Saturnworks 4 channel blend looper for my dirt options here and then capping it all with a nice tube pre like the SLO or the Oracle and sending all that jazz into the Quilter running as a power amp. That way I always have the Quilter as a good sounding pre option as well if something goes south.
I'm really loving the King of Tone in hard clipped mode for bass. If somebody tells you they don't think it works on bass, they probably didn't flip those dip switches around! It's incredible! I have a few more things I'd like to try before I settle, though. I'd like to try a few of the wacky discontinued Maxon tube pedals and the mini Becos comp with the threshold knob. The pedals in this lineup make me smile, though. They sound good. I went through a lot of pedals in each category to assemble this group!

Love the Markbass Super Booster! I used the Compressore into the Super Booster direct to FOH @ church for the longest time, and it was a great warm clean clean (did I say clean) tone! And it was nice being able to switch between modern and vintage with the VLE filter / footswitch.

Regretted selling that the day I shipped it.

I've been on the hunt for another (off and on). Probably another v2 Compressore also. I will find another one of these days.

Hmm, I seem to recall mine being in Michigan or Indiana somewhere. I really did have saved searches up for YEARS waiting for another one and couldn't press buy quickly enough! It's all about the VLE for me on that thing. I'm hoping maybe I can get with the times though and starting using a good IR, but hey, I've always got a Super Booster. For now. Until this one fries as well!
