The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

Think of the LA-1A and DC7 as the cost of three typical pedals...they're worth three pedals you would've bought...but now won't. LA-1A is like a foundational pedal on your board...buy once, cry once...;)
Yeah, I'm never gaga over a pedal, but I've never had a pedal effect my sound in such a way. I was looking for a tube preamp/DI (still am sort of) and low pass filter and when I got the LA-1A it kind of cured all of that. Tightened up my sound and warmed it with the tubes. Even our lead singer (she admittedly is clueless about gear) said how great my bass Sounded when I first used it. If that isn't a ringing endorsement I don't know what is.

Here in Australia the DC-7 is $430AUD, the Cioks 4 is $246AUD. Massive difference. But I would have to buy a 24V DC power supply for the Cioks 4. If I got a LA-1A, I probably wouldn't have it on my main gigging board I don't think. I'd have it on a smallish board with a THDI (18V) and a tuner and possibly a wireless, and If I did have it on my main board the Cioks 4 is enough to do everything anyway. I have an Ojai running that now, which I could probably sell.

Don't mind me while I think out loud publicly on this thread. Apologies!! Moving on...

Thank you ! Now got to see how i can have the LA-1A & the Super Stack on board, without removing other pedals. The way LA-1A fattens your tone makes the SS a little redundant on my board though... Got to have a try. The dynamic EQ on the LA-1A adds a nice extra sheen, dig it !

Been using a Sweetfoot to power my HX Stomp, Markbass Compressore, and numerous other pedals. It works well and I've had no issues since I got it in January. The 12V is at 1.2 amps so I can use larger tube compressors and such...I'm going to get one of the Effectrode comps at some point, so I was planning ahead.
