The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

Except every time I unplug the power supply and plug it back in, the cab sim volumes I've changed ALWAYS return back to the factory 0dB level. Regardless of stock IR's or user loaded. I do have the latest firmware and editor versions. I've been in contact with NUX. They're aware.

Same exact thing happens to me. This is obviously not intended and I'm sure will get fixed in a firmware/software update.

Question for those of you that got an Oracle....is there a general consensus on swapping out/upgrading the tube?

Trying to decide if I want to have Micah upgrade it or if it's best to go with the stock. For context drive/dirt is not what I'm after with the Oracle. I've got plenty of that on tap that I already like between the Amptweaker Tight Fuzz Bass and my TH700. I'm just looking for as much clean and fat tubey gooey goodness that I can get. I'm an admitted complete novice when it comes to different tubes and what characteristics they provide. I just know I like em!

No consensus afaik :).

I bought my Oracle stock, but put in a Genalex - Gold Lion B759 / ECC83 / 12AX7. Not sure what the NOS tube is / was that Arkham sells. Basic stock is a JJ 12AX7, per Micah. If you do change out the tube, make sure you unplug the box for at least 5 minutes for electricity to dissipate before opening the box. Other than that, it's relatively easy to swap tubes.

The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

Personally I thought the Genalex brought maybe a little more drive, and I had to be careful to find a point where it would suit my tastes. I'm more of a clean tube to some saturation to low overdrive kind of guy. Currently I think I have it set between a little saturation and light overdrive. I haven't swapped it back to stock for comparison, but the Genalex does sound really good. I bought mine through tubedepot.com with the following options:

Genalex - Gold Lion B759 / ECC83 / 12AX7 Preamp Vacuum Tube
Low Noise & Microphonics
High Gain

Looks like this one is out of stock at the moment, but backorderable.

Unfortunately I don't have any other 12ax7 tubes at the moment to swap in my Oracle. I do have a 12ay7 but see no need to try and increase clean headroom.

Is yours stock? I'm kind of thinking going stock is a good way to go to hear it as Micah intended and then picking up a couple options afterward from Tube Depot. That lets me use his stock tube as a solid baseline to compare others to.

Not exactly a preamp, but this showed up yesterday, and I'm running my preamps into it, so . . .

Mmmmmm. Cabilicious.

Yes mine is stock. JJ tubes are fine tubes. I did a lot of tube rolling in my Effectrode LA-1a and while there were differences, I ended up going back to the stock JJ's.

I put a Mullard tube in mine. Bought it from Tube Depot and they will pick a low microphonic low noise tube for a few bucks extra. You can also request a high output one.

You're the one. I knew I remembered somebody on here dropped one of those in. As a newb when it comes to the tube...are the differences in character between a low output and high output tube self explanatory or is there more to it than that?
