The Great Bass Preamp/DI Comparison

That’s the one piece of gear I think Josh should hire a minion to build. There is an extreme shortage of P-15s in the world!
I should be that minion. Off work and close by. I even know how to make solder puddles and righty tighty, lefty loosey with the screws.
That’s pretty much all there is to these things, right?

What’s your thoughts on the P-15 vs. SSDI? I’m curious, although would probably stick with a P15 given the choice since I have a pedal super stack.
Both are really good. Unfortunately, I never had both at the same time but Bax stack, and Fender stack (with mids) and a whole bunch of heft behind the notes. The SuperStack is a great pedal (Tube eq + Boost) and has the same tone stack but everything after that is different.
I can’t plug the SS into a power amp and play a gig.

It's pretty okay  Haven't messed with it too much yet, but liking what I hear so far. Very similar to the Diamond, but somehow more "open". Have to keep it low though as it can get a bit squishy for my taste.
I had the BCP-1 and a Monocle a while ago. Very similar vibe. It does get pretty squishy. Pretty much the reason I sold it.

Do you have a PDR?
I do. And as of today I have a Jam Pedals Bass Dyna-ssor on the way just for poops and giggles, so to speak. Saw it in the classifieds today after I was researching the Jam Pedal Rattler v2. It was a total impulse buy, which is how I roll. I can't see anything (that I can afford) actually being better than the PDR, but a different flavor to have options wouldn't be all bad.

You’re probably pretty good with the PDR then. It’s more versatile than the Monocle IMO.

Just wait until we both miss out on the Monocle Deluxe. Neither one of us will feel better that day.
Right. You know that day is coming. I maintain no illusion that I will actually have a shot at scoring one that day. My (our) only hope will be someone deciding a year later that they like their LA-1A better and posting their monocle in the classifieds . . . and me being on the toilet at the right time to catch it.
