Jule lives about 100 min away from me, and is a really nice guy. He just built me a Simone 500 (amp only) for my keyboards...

He since changed the Simone pre to 12v...and he's got a waiting list for them, afaik. Have not personally heard the Simone pre, but I've read it has it's own flavor...slightly different from Monique.

I'd be curious to hear this and how it stacks up with the other heavyweights.

Scuba's the guy to do the comparison, so I'm very much looking forward to it as well.

With a separate AC power supply, the Teegarden Fatboy is too big for a pedalboard obviously -- you are stretching the size boundaries (what's next? Eclair Evil Twin, Tonecraft, Tab Funkenwerk V71, etc.) and coming perilously close to rack mount tube DIs (Kern IP777, REDDI V2, Demeter, etc.). . . pretty soon all hell will break loose!

It has the essentials (pre, comp, eq) and it happens to weigh less than my pedalboard go figure. And honestly I think I paid less for it than my current pedalboard components combined.

Versatile as long as you prefer a transparent and detailed sonic signature. Even with all the "color" options engaged (pre tube and transformer, tube comp/eq), it still maintains an overall clean and sweet musicality.

I've thought about going that route for my "pedal" board, but I'd still have a couple "pedal" type things so I'd almost rather just have it all on a pedal board.

Certainly, like a tuner for example. I don't gig with it, but it's tempting to take it to church where I can be careful with it and integrate it with my pedals.

Right. I have a Tuner/Mute (TU-2) that I just can't live without. I also use wired IEM's so I have a Rolls PM50s as well. I have a special cable where they need to be next to each other. I mean, I suppose a guy could use a tiny board for those two (I currently don't use effects other than my LA-1A) and run a cable to the rack with the fancy gear.

Not preamp related, but since I'm the OP I'm gonna hijack my own thread.

Since buying the LA-1A...I'm regretfully selling my FEA DE-CL. And yes, I still think it sounds a little better (to my ears) than the LA-1A, but I'm still twisting knobs on the LA-1A. And, well...I bought new tubes for it, and a current doubler cable and rearranged my board....so I'm sort of invested in it.

Sweet, versatile and just a little spendy! Though if I added up all that I've spent chasing tone...
