I kind of dig the sound, though it would have limited use in that capacity, at least the way they dialed in the grit. But you'd have to use a 2-channel mini XLR mixer or something to send just one channel to FOH, which is highly impractical for the average bassist. They really should have asked us before releasing it.

For me, the 2 XLRs to the board would be no problem. I’ve got plenty of open channels on my M32/DL32, so it’d just be a matter of my sound tech mixing the distortion channel in. (There will be some grumbling from him, but, since I own the PA....)

I’m looking forward to trying one out, as it could potentially replace two pedals on my board if it does the trick for me (Q/Strip and YYZ).

I can say this, it is of higher quality design wise under the hood than most any other preamp "pedal" out there....especially at this price point. Feels and sounds like a piece of studio gear.

That's exactly my impression. It's the closest Preamp or DI I've played through that gives me the Studio sound and feel I've experienced when being in Studio. People are sleeping on this preamp.

That's what I have. After speaking to Carey I do understand. He couldn't get the quality he wanted with less power. I can respect that. It does drive me crazy that the input and output are on opposite sides than is intuitive for me, but again, Carey's reasoning is that this is a preamp first, not a pedalboard pre. I'm bringing it out tonight to test, but so far it far exceeds the audio quality of everything else I've played in it's price range and intended use. Of that holds true live than I can look past my feelings about these two "issues". They are incredibly minor considering the sound and playing feel of the product, which seems to be really special.

I have no doubt it’s an amazing piece of gear, coming from Carey. Having used, and loved, several sets of his pickups, and several of his onboard preamps, in the past, I can say from experience that Nordstrand stuff is top-notch.

I’d love to try the Starlifter one day. From everything I’ve read here, it’s typical Nordstrand, which means it kicks ass.
