BDDI 2 just arrived, really loving throwing SVT-style settings at it, and as predicted it goes great with my P Bass vintage reissue. Sounds like my idea of a bass, I guess this means I'm 'finding my own tone'. Seems more forgiving of my playing style too, I imagine there's some compression going on. Time to have a proper look at the (short) manual.

I received my Noble today and honestly, I’m not all that impressed. The RNDI sounds just as good, if not better than the Noble with EQ flat.

I definitely prefer the Oracle and Grace ALiX to the Noble.

Seriously though, would love to try both the Oracle and any of those Grace pres. Grace isn't that far from me actually.

That Oracle must be sumpin’ special. The Grace stuff is kinda weird in that how can something that does such a good job of faithfully reproducing what you put into it have so much “character”? Or is it just me?

Yeah, the guys who put this in front of their SVT at arenas. Sorry, I'm not doing that. I play to a different crowd, at church, and I need something that goes clean in addition to a little hair.

I had a Noble for a little bit. The Noble, to me, is one hairy wonder, and if you don't need that hair, you're sol. Unless maybe you have another way to bypass or blend it, but I wasn't going to put more money into that, so it went bye bye.

And yes, the Oracle can give you good clean tubeness. Or a little something on top. So I'm there.

The Noble is basically incapable of hair, though. It is probably the 'cleanest' tube pre on the market. I have to use other pedals in front of it if I want overdrive.

As a former REDDI & Noble owner, I’m really loving my new oracle pre/eq! Enough controls to make a big difference in the tone, but just setting it flat it sounds sublime.

Micah was very easy to deal with over email and is stand up dude.

I would like to try a noble but not for the price they are. I’m good with my oracle and p-15. P-15 is still my favorite. Super stack is great too.

Well I currently have the Nordstrand Starlifter and Trickfish Minnow with RNDI coming Monday. I also put money down on a Noble Preamp build with Jack today. So once I get the Noble I’m going to do a good shootout and even compare our TV broadcast recordings to see what works best for me. I’ve basically crossed over to amp less rigs and focusing on my pedalboard right now. Never thought I would ever get away from a amp but with the churches I play at now good FOH and IEM tone is all I need.

I would love a Super Stack. It would be the perfect complement to the SVPre, I think. But all the time I’ve been following the Broughton stuff (which isn’t THAT long, to be fair), I’ve only seen ONE for sale. I’m sick of waiting for his stuff to be available, awesome though it may be. It’s a full time job keeping up with the Broughton thread and constantly refreshing his website, just to be disappointed.

This is correct. The Noble is about as clean sounding as a tube pre can get I’d say. The Oracle is still in the cleanish side but if you crank the gain dial and hit it hard it will get a little gnarly. But nothing like OD still.

In my opinion the Oracle is the better device.

But the Grace ALiX is even better. It isn’t a tube preamp but somehow it has this spatial, 3D, bottomless sound. The phase reversing switch is magical. It is far more versatile than either the Oracle or Noble and is dead quiet. I mean, it is scary how silent the thing is.

Don’t get me wrong. I still get alerts, but I hold out no hope. I’m ready to move on. Of course, when things DO become available, I have to also have money to buy them with, which more often than not is a problem. Details. But here I sit with some gubmint cheese in my bank account, and no Broughtons to buy.
