The Growliest Warwick?

having owned lots of warwicks at once, I'd say it's a tie between the Buzzard and the Dolphin Pro I.

And all *fretless* Warwicks, with stock rounds, have just the growl to die for. Too bad both my fretlesses went by the wayside, just because I suck that much on fretless =0)

Hey guys, thanks for all the awesome advice!!! Funny, the other day I played a Thumb 5 NT and it did sound absolutely amazing. Same day... I played a Peavey Cirrus 4 and it had a whole other vibe going on! Both amazing basses... if only I was loaded.... But that Thumb is weighing heavily on my mind, it just sounded so good! Thanks a lot guys, appreciate it. I'll let you know if I lay my hands on a Thumb within the next few months!

Yeah my Thumb is great, by the way I changed the original W. black lable's with some old Status custom roundwounds (100% english made stainless.. :D), those old Status strings sounds like hell:D

Yep, I've played corvette's and thumbs and dolphin's - including a custom shop dolphin that was to die for! (with a price tag to match!!) I think the thumbs are the growliest.

My favourite one so far was the 2003 thumb bleached blonde. I'm still a bit dissapointed that I didn't buy it...but my gosh it was an amazing sound. All the bark and growl of the thumb, with lots of high end definition. Wonderful.

I have acrylic basses that I am selling for $319 on ebay. They are the most growly basses I have ever played... but pretty damn heavy too.

I have 2 Warwicks, an old fortress (with full wenge neck) and a newer rockbass (highere end special edition) and these outgrowl both of them and all of the warwicks Ive played at my local seattle GC (they always have 7 or 8 in stock.)

I do not usually try to sell anything on here, but if you want growl you gotta try these.

The one guy who left me feedback gushed about how awesome this was. And I love my own too.

I currently don't have one running but I do have these available. I am going to be recording sound clips this week and comparison sound clips of a j bass and p bass with it. If their is interest I'll post the clips somewhere and the link here.

On another note, if see through or heavy isn't an option, you must atleast check out a Peavey Millenium (no not the BXP model.) Try one with the Musicman pickup near the bridge (as opposed to the Millenium J bass, which is not growly.) I have 2 of the Millenium with MMs, and even though they are a different animal than Warwicks, (which I like too) they are absolutely killer and are under $1000 if you look hard enough.

I've played a Streamer Jazzman and I really wasn't impressed, then again it was at GC and had been for about three years so that means absolutely nothing. But I did just play a Peavey Cirrus 4, i think it was the Bubinga model, the other day and holy flying peanut butter Batman, it was AWESOME!! The playability and tone was amaing and even though it didn't growl a ton it just sounded so smooth and sweet that it's all I can think about. Lukcily, it's cheaper than a Thumb too!!! But who knows, this will require serious consideration once I graduate in three weeks, the fear has set in, the real world awaits and the resume is flying like toilet paper at a Mexican restaurant, because as my graduation present to myself I'm gonna get a seriously sweet, mid to high level bass. So I'm doing insane research and pokin my nose around to find a sweet bass. Thanks for the replies and good info guys!
