The Hello Kitty Bass Project

O.o Apparently my bass is the subject of one of a series of books.

What a weird, wonderful world.

All that remains is the neck and setup. The hex slot of the truss rod nut appears to be stripped round, so it will have to go to a shop. I'll also have them try to remove the control panel plate, which is glued onto the body from the paint job. (It was plaid when I bought it)
So. I ordered some hex keys, and can now adjust the action somewhat.

I have a key for the neck, but nothing wants to move. I will revisit this when I have more inclination. I lowered the action, and re-did the intonation. It plays a lot better.

Hello Cleo! :)

Fwiw, at my small birthday gathering the other day my ladyfriend picked up a few balloons to add to the celebratory factor, and one was a Hello Kitty >^.. ^< Felt like it was @Volker Kirstein's shindig too

Which reminds me... I finally got the control plate off by undoing the jack, and prying the thing off with the jackhole. *leers* I was right. The plate had been "glued" onto the body from uncured paint. Notice the edges of the plate.

Also, I found out why half the pickup wasn't working. The pickup lead had been cut/spliced with twist connection and electric tape. You can see the big wad of tape off to the left. And yes, it was wired V/V/T.

Since it was spliced with twists & tape, when I pryed off the plate, it completely disconnected from the pickup leads.

I'm going to solder on an extension, and treat the two coils wired in parallel as a single pickup, with a kill switch and a 250K P Bass circuit.

The extension cable arrived last week, and today was a good day to do this. First, I pulled the pickguard and pickup out.

Next, I had to clean up the ends. The extra piece off to the top is the former end.

5 minutes with the soldering iron.

I tested for continuity and strength. Pass.

Packed up to put away until the switch gets here. I also still have to isolate all the connections. The plan is plain ol' electrical tape, which I don't have at the moment.
