The Hossenfeffer Bass Build

In the interest of full disclosure..... you can see them right along the edge of the headstock at transition from flat top/bottom to headstock edge at the "hook". I'm pretty sure I'll cut through to colorcoat or bare wood if I as much as breathe hard on them, so.... Invisible! I'll go with that, a little squinting or soft-focus camera work and its gone. Sigh...

Trust me, over time you'll pretty much forget they're there. Case in point: my first build had a roundover-mishap that I know is there but is hard for me to see. Latest build has a 2 oops's on the back of the neck -- I know they're there but I've gotten to where I don't really notice them. Those witness lines are pretty invisible and in a pretty hidden location.

Can't wait to hear this beauty sing.

Don't even be hard on yourself about some minor witness...or thin corner areas.
You should be immensely proud of the uber high end pro grade stuff you pulled off successfully here... cuz there is a LOT of that!

Now lets see that Ñegra-Glow beauty shine! :hyper:

His reasoning was.... "it might eat through the finish, depending on what you got"
....well.... no...:rollno:

Although ...you don't want to get too sloppy with it...for instance; if you have holes drilled for pots and inside those holes , the wood is not fully sealed?...
A big spooge of compound in the hole might swell the wood from the water content in the compound.

4 hours of hand-buffing with Fine Cut and swirl remover has taught me that.... its better to have a buffing wheel. Jesus I'm tired and sore! In the absence of such, I think it came out pretty good. I tried to keep the excess spooge out of the screw holes, fingers crossed. Not a factory-mirror shine, but the best I can do by hand. Still a faint haze of super-fine scratches, like a floor model at GC that's been touched by misc. clothing. I may risk an electric buffer on the flats, the edges actually look damn-near mirror shine, not sure why that is, maybe you just notice the flats more. My wife said, and I quote: "You are an OCD Lunatic". Long haul getting here. Next up, some Stewmac Fingerboard oil on the Bubinga, then copper foil shielding of the cavities. Thanks for looking.

That is looking fantastic!
And I absolutely adore that fingerboard! You really nailed that.
The slight swirly haze is really only evident on back as far as I can tell... and the little bit left on the front is going to be greatly diminished once you put all the stuff on.
If you do go to a powered buffer....I would stay away from any of the course mop type heads.
I like a small 4" grey foam (detail buffer) type head.

Especially on a top where it's easy to burn a corner of a pickup route with a too large "bonnet" .
I don't like electric polishers either... I use pneumatic. The torque is much easier to control. But if you are just using a drill motor.... it shouldn't be too scary.
