I picked this one up this week. SR600.

I love the way the bass looks, but I'm not quite sure about the neck. There seem to be quite a few dullish sounding places on the D and G string. I replaced the stock strings with some DR's, so I know that's not it.

Does that "flat black" finish have the same "muted" finish as the one on my 505? (Obviously my 505 isn't black though).

It seems I read everywhere how easy they "scuff".

Yes. It's a very thin satin finish over a stain. I've heard that a lot too, but mainly about the 500. I'm hoping this one won't be too bad.

Well, seeing as how I have 3 Ibanez basses (and 1 guitar), I am not sure how I have not joined this club yet, but here we go...

I might as well start off with the bass I use the most of the bunch - my 1984 MIJ Roadstar II RB630

then we have my AEB10E Acoustic-Electric, Made in China of course, but I like to play this late at night when it's not practical to use my amp...

and then there is this weirdo that I don't use much since I got my 6-string E-E basses, and nicer 4 strings... I find references to the 305 as being active, but mine is not. It either has soapbars or humbuckers in it, I really cannot tell. but it is made in Korea, it appears to have been made in 1996. Per the catalogs on the Ibanez site, the 305 that year was not yet active. The description of the pickups is not clear though...

So there you have it... number please?

Someone told me today that the SRX690 has been discontinued. Does anyone know if this is true? I know the 550 has been discontinued. I wonder if they're going to have anything in the upper end of the SRX line or if they're just revamping everything?

Over on Carol Kaye's website she says that both models have been discontinued. They're going to replace the them with a 720 neck-through model. Bet that'll be more expensive too.

i purchased a new SRX695DX neck-through 5 string just the week before last...if they can "improve" it, i don't see how...

Can i get a # too ?

The Ibanez Website says there is a 690 and a 695, 4 and 5 string respectively. I think that it is the best bass that the company makes . . . it is neck-thru and it has a slightly thicker neck than the more known Ibanzez basses with anemic-thin necks that are too small for my large hands. The SRX695DX is a newer model of the bass that it replaced - the SRX705NT.

It doesn't bother me (at least after I got a well padded strap). I can't give you an honest opinion as far as comparisons go as I am new. The photo doesn't do this justice. I should have taken the shot outside in the sun. That paint job is really striking.

I have an SR500, and the more I play it the more I love it. The weight is fantastic, and I've been able to get my tone tuned in to just what I want, but with the spin of a knob I can change it up!

Love it!.

So, not so long ago the preamp's battery in my SR4005 died (yay for the active/passive switch). I believe I did rant already about how the SR400x's are the only models in the entire SR series to not have an easy-access battery hatch thing -- it still sucks, but oh, well.

So, I get my precision screwdriver and open the electronics cavity with a spare 9-volt ready to go in...

...Imagine my surprise when it turned out that the Ibanez PowerCurve-3 preamp is, in fact, a 3-volt system. It runs on two AA batteries. ô.O

I'm finally going to be re-joining, after having to sell my SR-400 to pay some bills (cursed american job market!!!), while it was the most comfortable bass I had played, I'm not a fan of the Ibanez EQ's, so it went while I kept my passives.

The Big Brown Truck should be bringing me a routed out P-J Soundgear that lunknfur aka Dr. Dimento used to test pickups (I will probably use it for the same) and it will be nice to have a 2-octave neck in my arsenal again as well. Already thinking up some crazy pickup combinations to try.

Well here's my new experiment...I mean bass, bringing me back into this club, nice old SR-300 DX.

With its stock setup (the good doctor put the stock pickups back in it) it sounds rather good, I vastly prefer passive SR's it seems, and some really nice slap tone in addition to fingerpick. Behind that black pickguard (which is already off in preparation for projects) is a big rout allowing the installation of just about any pickup anywhere from neck to bridge.

I'm thinking for the first setup I'm going to try a MM pickup mid/bridge and a stacked J or other deep humbucker at the base of the neck. Just waiting for good ol economy to let up on me so I can get more cash to fund this, heh. Also have a nice chrome/brass string thru bridge I might think about installing, gonna do some looking around for ferrules first.

Hi.
I own Ibanez Musician, the 1980 one (2x single coil) and it has very low output in passive mode. I also have Blazer with Super P and it has normal volume. Is this usual for these Super4 pickups or I have problem with them?
