Remember how my SR4005's preamp was dead? I contacted the website I bought it from and their warranty return policy looked like a lot of pain -- UPS tracked shipping at my expense which they might then refund for at most 10% of the instrument's price, must be in pristine condition (which isn't the case -- there's a couple dings here and there), yadda yadda yadda... Bothersome. So, if it's gonna cost me money anyway:

F*ck this noise.

Audere 3ZB preamp: ORDERED.

If you go to ibanez.com you can use the dealer tool to find your closest ibby shop...then just give em those part numbers i gave you and your good to go...and they are still compatible with your SDGR, nothing has changed much in the way or truss covers and control knobs etc...

BTW...if you don't go with the EMG upgrade i can sort you out with original boards, pickups and even schematics if you so need them...

Thanks very much, I'm gonna have to make good with the tech at my shop and have him become my "hook-up" for the parts!

As far as the pick-ups, I appreciate it! Unfourtunatly, without the old pick-ups, I'm just going with the EMG path.

Currently it has one 40CS, and I JUST bought a 40J off ebay for just over $100 shipped. So I'm gonna go with the 40CS at the bridge and the J at the neck. Hopefully the tech doesn't have any problems sorting out the rats nest!

If there are any questions or problems between now and then I'm gonna hit you guys up for sure! Thanks again! :hyper:

Care to post which site gave you this run around? I'd make sure to avoid them at all costs.

It's a french website (Muzikia), so it's unlikely you'll come across them anyway ;) . They used to be called Playback when I bought the bass 2.5 years ago (yay for 5-year warranty?), but I guess they were bought out or something... Either way, they seem to have much less choice now than back then, so even disregarding those issues there isn't much of a point in shopping there anymore. I've switched back to Thomann for all my music shopping needs.

But yeah, I'm a bit miffed. I'm used to customer service like Microsoft's for the Xbox 360, where you call them, they set up a UPS tracked shipping and all you have to do is put your stuff in a cardboard box, stick a label on it and call the UPS guys to collect the package. Not to mention the "pristine condition" thing is absolute BS -- as far as I'm concerned, if the bloody preamp isn't working, it shouldn't matter that the bass has had its neck sawn in half, lit on fire and defretted with a crowbar.

Oh, well. I never really liked that preamp anyway (3-volt electronics are a bad idea -- the batteries must be changed way too often), and the Audere will turn my SR from a nice-sounding, versatile bass into the Voice That Will End Worlds. :bassist:

Now if they could just ship it already... :crying:

I've always played Ibanez, i started with one GSR bass, and since then I've owned only Ibanez basses, those are:

SRX3EXQM1
GWB35
K5
SR506

And the latest addition to my collection is my SR1006EFM

I don't see many of these popping up, somehow people didn't seem to like this model too much. The first time i played one of these i fell in love and i knew i had to get one, while I'm not too keen on the sound (i spoiled myself with sgd pickups and an acg preamp on the SR506) I'm crazy for the feel of the bass.

I have a BTB555 which is my hands down favorite player right now. I can dial in just about any tone. nice low low action, no fret buzzing, and just an all around sweet player. I also have an ATK305 from the MF/M123 blowout. It also is a very nice bass and I really like it as well, but I just don't play it as much as my BTB because it does not fit into as many of the music styles that I play. The BTB is not for everyone because the necks are HUGE. However I have actually grown to like that big neck. picking up my jazz after playing my BTB almost feels cramped and constrained now.

I don't get the scorn though because from the Ibby's that I've played and own they are as good as anything else in their price range. Can you get better? Sure you can, but you'll likely have to pay for it as well. I think that perhaps much of the the bad rap may come from many whose idea of an Ibanez is a Gio that came in a learn to play starter pack, and that stigma never goes away. Same as those who scorn a Squier VM or CV because they view them as "beginners instruments".

At the end of the day all that really counts is that you have a bass that YOU like and that YOU are comfortable with and who cares what name is on the headstock!

Hey guys, I'm not an Ibanez owner (yet?) but I'm hoping I can get some answer from you lot. I tried looking up on reading serial numbers but found way too many different answers so I'm more confused than when I started.

Anyhow, I found a Ibanez SR590 on CL and its number on the headstock reads "C337508" with Made in Korea written below it, but its format doesn't match with anything else I've read so far. Is this a legit serial? What does it mean?

I think that serial means made in china, 2008.

But let's wait until someone more knowledgeable about such things chimes in before making any decisions...

Thanks for the response.

From what I've found so far, C is for the Cort factory in Korea, so that much matches up. It's the numbers that doesn't make sense. The most common answer I've seen so far for a C serial is CYYMM#####, which doesn't match what was pictured in the ad.

Luckily, my GAS is not in flavor of Ibanez as of late :hiding:, not to mention I just dropped some money to repair my computer so this one's less likely to happen but I'm more curious about this serial now. lol

Yes, it's original... your 590 came from the Cort factory in Korea. It was made in the later half of 1993 to be released in the following season's lineup. Details below;

SR590
Lt maple body
2/2 position headstock
rosewood fretboard, pearl dots
IBZ ADXP/ADXJ pickups
active 2-EQ
die cast bridge
finishes available [NT, TT]
1994-95
You won't find too many of these around as they only ran for one full season.

45cmckay105. He offered up his member number for me and I'd be honored to accept it if it's possible. If there's a question of bass qualification, I do own an IXJB190, although it's technically my son's. I paid for it, though. :smug:
