Don't you dare modify that bass!! I'll buy it from you just to save it. I just scored a sweet Ibby RB630 P bass, that would be sweet compliment to it.

I have the twin to that Jazz - a sunburst 1976 with maple neck and black blocks. As it arrived with a dead neck pickup (which the seller, Jugghaid, was totally upfront about), I popped in some DiMarzio Model J's and this thing just rocks! While I was in mod mode, I added a J-Retro, Hipshot Ultralites and a Schaller 463 bridge. Between the purchase price and all of the goodies, I have about $600 into this bass and I think that it smokes basses that sell for double and triple the price. So much so, that I felt no hesitation selling my Epiphone Jack Casady and Reverend Rumblefish PJ as this bass was making them collect dust as it became my absolute #1.

So long as the mods you make are reversible and cause no major visible structural changes, feel free to mod.

How does the stock pickups sound? For all I know one or several of the previous owners might have changed pickups, the guy selling it didn't seem to know anything about the bass...
I'm probably gonna get some new pups anyway, it's the whole business with getting a replacement neck I'm unsure about...

When I come to think of it I saw a guy selling a Badass brigde for a decent price the other day... will it fit?

The one stock pickup I had in mine that worked sounded fine. However, the DiMarzio Model J's are just great ballsy pickups that sound fantastic in a live mix. They are a definite upgrade.

Unfortunately, and I almost learned this the hard way, but standard Fender-sized bridges are NOT a direct replacement. You will have to drill if you want to go with a badass or any other type of replacement bridge. I chose a Schaller bridge as they are really great quality and it was easier to work with as it uses just 3 screws vs 5 for the badass. The badass hole placement was just off enough that they likely would have collapsed into the original holes and I obviously didn't want to take that risk. The Schaller hole placement had enough of a safe margin so that there was no worries that they would destabilize.

Thanks for the tip!

I'm definetely going to try different brigdes to check how the fit.. Just hope the luthiers in my area (Oslo, Norway) have some in stock, they are usually suprisingly poorly equipped when it comes to replacement parts for bass...

Man! What a lot of pretty basses. I own an Ibanez AB305LG ABG 5-string, and it's great...not as handsome as the ones posted here, but it's a very well made, great sounding [amplified] bass.
