Marcus, You are giving me tremendous amounts of gas with that BTB of yours. Not to mention, huge amunts of jeoulsy. So now officially, I hate you. :smug: I swear that ramp is just the whipped cream on top. Or in your basses case, chocolate fudge.

I just got my hands on an older (1996) SR505. I can't see why everyone hates on Ibanezes -- this is a great little bass! :hyper:

Granted, I happen to prefer it's narrow string spacing as well as the thin neck but I can't figure out "what's not to like" about it.

I'm not GAS-ing but I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for an SR-1005 in the future!

Welcome to the club.

They are pretty great basses, the new ones are great, the only thing I've got against the older ones is the pups/pre, but those can be changed and aren't that bad anyways.

i was about to spend a grand on a new bass. but instead, im going with new pups and pre in my sr 400. as well as a sweet couple of 'tatoos' and/or a pickguard.

why spend 1.5 k when i can spend 200?!

pics coming shortly, especially with mew new "top tapewound, bottom dr hibeam" string arrangement.

funny you should say that. testing my particular ibi with say, fenders, spectors, etc. it basically blows them all away. only prboelm is that it doesnt cut through all too well. but i blame the pups, which are being exchanged for some active emgs or barts.

it may not look AMAZING. but it kicks ass.

Steve -

You hit the nail on the head. I am thinking of dropping in some Barts to get a hotter output. The problem is, those pups are $100 each. I may just increase the volume on my amp when playing this bass and call it a day. :cool:

If you're diggin' the tone for now you can go for the volume thing, but if I had a couple hundred layin' around I wouldn't be averse to puttin' them in an Ibanez.

Personally though, I'm loving the MK1 pickups/pre on my 506. great sounds all around.

Since I last posted in the club I've made 2 ibanez purchases... I still have no pics of my:
ATK 305
RG570JBM (guitar)
Soundtank tube screamer (switch is dodgy so doesn't get used)

However, I bought an ATK 300 on Trademe (local ebay equivalent), and defretted it. Sounds and plays great (still getting used to the fretless thang though...)




And I just found an Ibanez analog delay pedal (AD-99) made between 1995 and 2000 I believe, in a local pawn shop for $50NZ (around $30 US) with no power adapter (I have an adapter and a powered pedalboard!!!). Haven't used it with bass yet, but quite a score!

I agree with you on that, Marcus. ;)

The pickups in the 1205(6)E are just about perfect to me. They're on the warm side, yet have more than enough treble when you turn up the highs without being brash. The preamp is very quiet too. The tones go from vintage to modern so well.

I usually keep my mid control at the 250hz setting. (mini switch towards the neck)

I just joined the club.

Pulled the trigger on a 1996 SR506, with active EMG pickups & electronics. The price? Let's just say I bought the electronics/pickups and got the bass in the same package for no extra charge. :D

Features:
- 3 pc maple neck w. rosewood fb
- Maple body (natural color on mine)
- Active EMG's
- 3 band Eq with mid freq. adjuster

The neck is slim (it's an Ibanez!) and it plays great. And it's my first six stringer, which means I've got to figure the neck out a bit (position-wise) but I believe it will advance my playing when I do figure it out. I like it. And I can fully use the floating thumb technique now.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I know. "No pics, no bass". Pictures coming later today. ;)
