Okay guys, I'm intrigued. I played a few Ibanezes over the months and have liked the necks and general playabiltiy. I play with a ukulele group (I'm a ukeist first, a bass player since December) and have been playing a SX PJ. It sounds good and I'm generally cofortable with it but it's heavy. Would this SRX 400 cut it in an acoustic group (with half rounds) and (2) would this bass be easier to shoulder. Lastly, everyone (including Ibanez) cateqorizes this bass as a heavy rock bass; is it capable of more tonally declicate music?Marcus Alan said:

It's a common misconception that all Ibanez instruments are good for is really loud music. Well, they are, but that's besides the point. Basically, they work well in whatever environment you wish to incorporate it in depending on your style and technique.
Having owned quite a few Ibanez basses that were touted as "extreme" or "powerful" for rock, I can say that you can make a nice variety of tones that transcend simple loudness. An example of this can be seen in Carol Kaye, who really talks up her Ibanez SRX, a bass that Ibanez says on their site is great for "hardcore metal artists."
The SRX basses are also fairly light and should do more than okay in any environment. In any case though, head out to a Guitar Center and plug one in for a hands-on test and let us know what you think ^_^

Well I guess an Ibanez is not to be for me, in the short term anyway. They didn't have an SRX so I played a few GSR's and an RD300; they were all nice basses, and I still like the necks, but I saw a Cort B4 on clearance for $298 and walked away with that. Thanks.

Yeah, I love those BTB's too. My only complaint would have to be weight, something that can easily be rectified with a nice Moody strap. Yours has a killer flamed top, too.Milo Duane said:I'm just so happy with my Ibby

I have a lawsuit Ibanez Jazz (Silver Series) from 1977 - blond, maple neck w/ black blocks. No pictures though. Anyone else find one of these?

There's a used walnut-bodied BTB 4 string at my Guitar Center. It was like the one in the pics on the older ibby website.
