A modest instrument indeed, by the standards of this thread, but by my count, I'm the third one here to claim a Jewel Blue SR800. Ibanez must have made a bunch of them.

This is a '92 model, before they added the midrange controls and stacked knobs.

I used to have a three ton Hondo P-bass knockoff with a corkscrew neck, and it was so bad that I gave up trying to learn bass, thinking that I just couldn't do it.

I spotted this one in a pawn shop, and as soon as I held it, it was like the parting of the clouds. I CAN learn to play bass! (cue swelling angel-song) I gave $180 for it, but I wouldn't take $400, because the neck is just perfect, and it feels so good to play.

I'm happy enough with the tone through the little Ashdown combo, but I'm also sure that there are better pickups than the Ibanez AFR's. If I ever get good enough that it makes a difference, I'll probably try some Bartolinis in her.

Yea, as i said, its very hard to describe, but you sort of lock in the string to itself around the tuning peg, sortof like stringing a guitar i suppose- It keeps tune great though. I would share my secret, but you really need someone to show you how.

EDIT: The uncut ends are wound under the string the 1st time when winding and then you wind under it, making it locked in effect.

There, i found a way to put into words.

My trusty '94 Ibanez TRB-100 has been with me for 13 years now. I replaced the P pickups with a set of Seymour-Duncan Quarterpounders about 6 years ago. I used the Ibanez P's to replace the very, very shot P's in my Lotus.

It has an awesome tone and has held up very well to much abuse.

It served as my primary instrument from the time I purchased it in '94 to when I bought my custom Smith fretless (seen next to the Ibanez below):

I love my SRX390, but I've been looking for an upgrade lately. I almost pulled the trigger on http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...E:B:AAQ:US:1&viewitem=&item=150082406661&rd=1 but it went for more than i wanted to pay for a bass i've never played. ( he also wanted $60 shipping ).

I've heard good things about the BTB series, but I've heard really good things about the ATK stuff, which is awesome, since they really aren't that expensive.

Why are they so special? Why do you like ATK's? Is it just the high end ATK's that are great? Should I wait for the new one or are the older ones better?

I ask, because i've never played or heard one. I might ask my music shop to bring in a few ATK's.

I'm back in boys and girls!

I just picked up an ATK 305 here in Jersey...

She needs some parts (control cavity covers, a new mid knob, a trussrod cover) But she's all mine!
Nice and black with a black pickguard and a maple neck...

Sounds so sweet and badass!

cool, cool. yea, i think i know what you mean, that's exactly how i string my guitars. they have a video of it on the d'addario website. that's where i heard about that method.

It seems like everyone is picking up second hand ATK's!

I just chucked some new strings on mine (picked up the bass yesterday, sunburst w/black pickguard and maple fretboard) and its amazing, bass needs a re-fret i think.

Currently thinking of selling my (now redundant) Fender MIM Jazz to fund a BTB 6'er!

I've become obsessed with Ibanez basses!
