Got mine yesterday. Three sting ADG, fretted, jazzish string spacing, single humbucker, short scale, single cut. I provided strap locks, cheapo tuners, and an onboard distortion effect I got off eBay about 5 years ago and never used. It plays great, feels great, sounds great, smells terrible.

Seriously. That smell. Bad.

So...does it go away? Or at least fade? Is there a way to speed up that process or cover up the smell? Would painting it do that? Not sure if, for example, the fretboard has the same oil, so that might not work. Honestly, my wife is pregnant and I'm sensitive to that sort of thing. (Perfumes can trigger migraines for me.) So, I kinda need the smell gone for it to be usable for more than a few minutes at a time.

14-string touchstyle (Sherman Tank 14). Bought it used off EBay, and Kevin has been awesome! Even though I bought it second-hand, he's helped me out with string gauges, looked at the pics before I bought it and pointed out I needed a new mute fuzzy, and we've been corresponding over the last couple of days about converting it to a 12 (string spacing's a bit tight for me as it sits). He is one stand up dude!

There seems to be some sudden interest in Krappy basses in Mexico. Or at least Facebook users in Mexico. Or at least my Krappy review on Youtube got a traffic spike from Facebook users in Mexico over the past couple of days.

Hey Krappy bassists! I've had a two-string Krappy for about a year now and I'm thinking of getting another. It's definitely more fun to play than any other bass I've owned, though sometimes I feel a bit limited with only two strings.

I'm thinking of asking if he'll do me a fanned fret SG shape in either 2 or 3 strings. Probably short scale too, but I'll need proper bass tuners to get a thick enough string on there. Right now on my 34" Krappy I'm using the A and D strings of a set of chromes, but tuned to E and A and it's just a tad floppy. On a short scale it would probably not sound good.

I figure I should post a picture of what I'm already working with. It's a lot of fun, and surprisingly stable for having no truss rod. I have the tiniest hint of fret buzz on one fret, but I find that it's actually something I can use as a tonal tool when I hit that note really hard. It sounds great, but with a proper bass pickup moved a bit forward it would be ideal.

I am having one of these built. I have been gas-ing for a two or three string bass to play around with and put an order in for a Hofner-style punk bass this morning around 9am. By 3:45 I had a pic of this: "jatoba body, chackte coc and wenge neck"

I've had my Ukemando for about 1 1/2 years now. The smell has faded. If you hold it close you can still get a whiff, but it's not overpowering anymore. It took a good few months of shows and sweating on it though!

They're very playable. I had no fret buzz at all. The fret edges were somewhere in between the Squier Bronco I once tried (which could have cut you) and the ultra-smoothness of things like a Fender or Ric - not perfect, but not uncomfortable. The bridge (if you allow him to build it), is not very adjustable, I think; it's kind of a stop-tail thing over a metal bar. The nut gave me fairly low action without any adjustment. All in all, pretty good, straight out of the box.

This is all the default Krap level, not a custom instrument, which I think he spends more time on. I was surprised by how well it played. But, you know, it's designed to be a cheap-ass custom instrument, so keep your expectations reasonable and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Just sorta out details last night with Kevin. He seems like such a rad dude! I asked for some specifics: dual pickups/dual outputs, brass or steel nut, beefy bridge. I basically wanted an weapon with strings!
From Kevin:
"see pic rough cuts peruvian walnut and mahogany neck, teak fretboardand wenge body..."
