...I have a 2009 USA Lakland Duck Dunn that was my main bass (pre-buy out), this one is just so much better. I haven't really been able to play for the last 10 months, every once in a while we will have a jam here at the house with some friends and I grab my Lulls! I have pretty much forgotten about the Laklands, Rics and other basses I have.Blood Bath & Beyond has a really nice bar stool that has a hydraulic adjuster, I can sit down and play for about an hour then have to sit out, but it is still so much fun.
I hope after all this neck and back junk is over with I will be able to start playing again.
After talking with Mike and Paul, the weight on the basses can really vary, but they try to make them all as light as possible.
As for the sound, I have heard they kill anything Fender's Custom Shop has to offer. For sound this is what I have been told, so it is not the gospel by any means!
Nice P Deedub72! I just ordered a M4V in Sherwood. What was it you didn't like about their Sherwood if you don't mind me asking? Also interestingly enough, my next Lull might be a passive P5 and you mentioned in your post that you have one. Tell me about yours. Color? Fretboard? Anything. I'm all ears.

Thanks, that UVP is killer. I thought their version of Sherwood was a tad dull, it just didn't have depth of Sherwood as I know it. So after many phone calls with Paul, we decided it would be best for me to find the color I wanted and send them a high res pic of it so they could match it...the end result was even better than I could have imagined.
The Sherwood that Lull uses or at least what is posted on their site seems to have a grey hue to it, just not very vibrant.
Now, the P5...AWESOME...8.2 lbs Seafoam green with birdseye fretboard, it is amazing. I have nothing bad to say about this bass at all...I am not much of a 5 string guy, but this bass is so comfortable I have ZERO issues or complaints. My only complaint...why didn't I get one sooner!
I will post some pics today, I am going to borrow a camera so I can post pics. After I post my pics you can compare the two Sherwood greens, you will see what I am talking about.

Their shade of Sherwood is nice, don't get me wrong, it just seemed off to me and maybe the pics just don't do it justice? I am a fanatic about green basses...I don't know why, it isn't even my favorite color? I just love green basses.
I like loud colors in general, leaning towards candy tangerine on the next Lull or some form of a candy color other than red. We also talked about a heavy sparkle finish...that would be insane...a nice thick sparkle with matching headstock...that would be sick.
I borrowed a camera but have run out of time to take pics and post tonight, maybe the sun will be out tomorrow. The UVP has to be see in person to really appreciate. The metal flake in the paint is awesome, it really shimmers in good lighting.

Was it purely asthetics that decided your 5 string body styles? At some point I'd like to have Mike put together a 5'er for me. I've always been a P-bass guy and in a bold move
, I went with the MV4. I see most folks take the asymmetrical J shape for their 5 strings. I 'm thinking about the P5. The standard neck widths are the same it seems. Anyone care to give there reasons for choosing one or the other? Any differences other than the obvious that I should take under consideration? Thanks guys. I'm really "luvin" this Lull stuff.

Regarding body style, I definitely prefer the slightly undersized J of the MxV, but that's obviously personal preference. I've only played two Lull P's, but had didn't have any issues from a playability standpoint. We're probably picking nits at this point, but if you subscribe to the more-mass-is-better philosophy, the P is perfect. Good luck!

To be honest, I bought my P5 here on TB on an impulse deal...I wanted to try a Lull and that was the only one that would fit my budget at the time, plus most were active which isn't my thing, so I grabbed it. I have never played a Lull Jazz style so I cannot give you an honest answer. I can say that the P bodies are thicker than a Fender Precision but they are chambered which makes them a less heavy. The two P styles I have are both great basses and one would be hard pressed to find a better bass for the money.
Here is the diffeence between the two Sherwood Green colors, as I mentioned I prefer a more vibrant shade. Nothing is wrong with their SG. It all boils down to one thing, what's more appealing to you.

Very nice bass.
I am seriously considering a JT4 for my next Lull build. I too love J basses and love the tone of a T-Bird but the Gibson T-Birds way a ton. I understand that Mike's T series is pretty light weight but I have a serious neck issue that has to be factored in on any bass I buy.
I think I am going to order a swamp ash JT4 in Candy Tangerine with a matching HS, cream pearloid pick guard and possibly a quartersawn maple neck (depending upon price vs flatsawn). I have it all figured out except one last detail, rosewood or birdseye maple fretboard? I am still up in the air on that one...part of me says esthetically rosewood should look better but I really like the look of birdseye...tough call!
Any thought, comments or suggestions would be appreciated!
How about a mahogany body? In any case, I'd definitely recommend rosewood for the board. Take Mike's word over mine, but I'd think maple against an ash body and those pickups would be too much of a good thing.

Man, that looks almost like my Lake Placid Blue Roscoe Beck(which really isn't LPB, no matter what fender says, closer to Ocean Turquoise), that said, it's a fantastic colour, your Lull.
I just got a brand new Lull V4, which is the passive jazz bass. I'm considering having it converted into an M4V, which of course is the active jazz bass. What are your thoughts on that? Do you think it would be worth it?
I am leaning towards rosewood...mahogany is very hit and miss for weight. I know with swamp ash the bass will be lite weight.

That is my personal opinion, I am not a big fan of active basses. I have a handfull that are but 90% of my basses are passive...to my ears passive sounds better. There is only one active bass I have that I really love, that is my Peavey Rudy Sarzo with Barts, that bass is amazing. All the others are so/so.
The call is really up to you, if it were mine I'd leave it stock, save your coins and by a used MV4, then you would have one of each.
