The Mike Lull Club Part 2

Glad you two chimed in. I too think their 35" is very playable and sounds "right". You just hear so many from other camps praise the 34" 5 makers and I'm sure for good reason.

No doubt there are some great 34's out there-Ive played some 34's I didnt care for too.My old Lakland 55-94 is 35 and it is a players bass all the way.Very comfortable to play.Now Ive never gigged a Lull,just based on the 30 minutes or so in the store I was left with no reason to believe it would be an issue.I really liked the playability as it is,Id be afraid to mess with that.I would like to try a 34 though.

Doesn't look right to me. I want to pick from two maple boarded color choices and decide on one . One will be Black/Maple/Tort (my fav..I think) Pics of or opinions on Burg Mist/Maple anyone?

I'm a sucker for Black/Maple/Tort.One of my all time favorite color schemes.Nut I think a Burgandy Mist/ Maple would look awesome.Good call IMO! And I'd agree- no matching headstock,but that's totally IMO!

BTW-did you end up going alder or ash body??I'm considering alder/maple PJ

I love the idea of burgundy mist against maple. Of course, I'll probably make you burp a little by also saying that I think it'd look awesome with a matching headstock. I know a lot of folks prefer only to match the headstock against darker boards, but I have to tell you that I love the look...here's one more shot of my CAO P/J, just for giggles...

Hey there ya go-The matching headstock does look good there.But I should have qualified my comment-I'm not much into matching headstocks with any color or fingerboard necessarily,except with exotic bodied basses.But I will say-that loOks great!

A *very* rough estimate of the colour, but I think it looks good with the matching headstock.

Yessir, chrome HW. It's gonna be a fairly dark looking bass (I forgot to mention the black pearloid pickguard originally), so I want the chrome hardware to brighten it up a little. I'm not really a metal guy (not that there's anything wrong with being a metal guy!).

Aesthetically, the Geddy Lee Fender is really my inspiration for this one. I just can't bring myself to copy his bass 100%, even if he is one of my heroes...

I asked Lull to install the Black Pearloid guard, but I also asked them to put two spare pickguards in the case for me (white pearloid & tortoise shell). Then I can change guards like I'd change my skirt... er... my shirt.

EDIT - and I was THIS close to asking them to do the bridge cover and neck pickup cover thing (if they even offer that as an option)... I'm really going for a vintage vibe, something that will contrast quite sharply with my Roscoes.

Just so Greg doesn't feel lonely in the girl's dressing room...I'm in the booth right next door. I've got multiple pickguards as well. Took me a while to realize that black is the *right* guard for my 3TB/maple M5V, and I've settled on pearloid (white) for the CAO, CAR, and sherwood green basses. Sometimes a girl just has to accessorize, you know?

And, what the heck, while I'm at it, I suppose I should update the current fantasy list...

M5V-24, ash/maple. Natural finish, pearloid guard and block inlays. Black bridge, strap locks, & headstock hardware. Duncan LHB's (70's) and Bart NTMB. Similar to Greg's "I want a Geddy, but," this is my take on a Marcus J.

M5V-24 P/J, alder/rosewood. LPB finish, pearloid guard and block inlays, matching headstock. Black bridge, strap locks, & headstock hardware. Duncan LHB in 70's bridge position, and Bart NTMB. And I've already gotten clearance from my wife...should Mike ever agree to make an M6V, this will be the configuration (but with a J in the neck position, if I must), and I'll melt the credit card in a happy second.

Yeah, that's the beauty of a traditional J. The control plate can stay put, it's just a handful of screws to take the guard off...
