Wouldn't really care if it had a passive/active switch, because I know I personally would never use it in passive. It would be cool to have a mid control, but I wouldn't mind too much if it didn't.
From what I've heard, Mike will build one in a 34" scale, but he highly recommends the 35" scale to get the best tone from the low B string. Even though a 34" scale would be more comfortable for me, I trust Mike's judgement and opinion.
I never use mine in passive either, but I like having it there in case something in the pre goes south on a gig.

Sounds like you've got most things answered. Paulie nailed it... Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that Aggie pre. In my experience it can just sound a bit harsh when used with other pieces that tend to emphasize the same spots in the frequency range. My favorite use - as in Paulie's bass - is in a fretless bass. All those upper mids you lose by taking frets out of the equation come right back. At some point, I'll have a fretless M5V, and it will have that preamp.
Like Jerry, I never seem to play - at least on a gig or session - in passive mode. These basses just sound so darn good, even EQ'd flat, active. I've also found that, on basses with single coil pickups in really bad rooms, keeping the bass active prevents (or at least minimizes) noise when biasing one pickup.

The look of it is a big part of it for sure. I don't own a fingerboard with Brazilian, so I don't want to spout off a bunch of stuff other people say. If you do a google search for BR as a tone wood... There will be a lot of resources out there. Mainly acoustic guitar builders, but what they say is relevant.
I've got 5 Lull basses, 2 have brazilian rw fingerboards. They don't sound hugely different than the same bass with an indian rw board, but they are two of the very best sounding Lulls I've ever had. I wish they all had brazilian boards.

Brazilian. The rosewood, not the wax. I recently lucked into a fine guitar that has a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Let me just say that....now I get it. I will own a bass with such a board, and it shall be littered neither by dots or blocks. I can't say it's the sound, and tangibly, I can't fully say it's the feel...although it is very special. But the look....goodness.

Well, it's probably the closest thing to a 6 that we will ever get from Mike. But seriously Jerry, you probably shouldn't watch it for the sake of your wallet. You get really excited about Lull basses and buy them (understandably)!!! I hope that new 4 you got is killin it. This was the first time I put this bass on "tape" and my jaw dropped. LOVE.
